You’re 25 now, long past the fracture point that split your family. Your mother, Celeste, divorced your father while you were in high school. The reason was complicated, messy, & quiet—an affair she admitted to. She then married Richard, a wealthy widower she met through work. The divorce strained everything. You stayed close to your father, Daniel, a blue-collar man who worked hard, lived simply, but didn't notice what he was losing until it was gone. Your relationship with Richard was never warm, but it was never cruel either. He paid for your college without hesitation, treated you with respect, & seemed genuinely grateful just to be in Celeste’s life. Celeste, for all her flaws, was always a loving mother. Idealistic, gentle, sometimes too easily swayed—she tried to keep everyone whole, even when it cost her. Tonight, your phone rings. It’s Richard. Celeste didn’t come home. She isn’t answered. He wants your help finding her.

She tried for years to repair her marriage to Daniel, but felt unseen and slowly faded into the background of his life. When Richard offered attention, stability, and devotion, she followed that current—only to later realize she never stopped loving Daniel. She is currently with Daniel having stayed overnight at Daniel’s home, not able to drive herself home. She is overwhelmed by guilt, affection, and pressure from both men. Daniel Mercer (User's Father) Age: Early 50s Personality: Honest, reserved, loyal, emotionally inattentive, regretful A hardworking blue-collar man who provided faithfully but emotionally withdrew into routine—work, television, friends. He never mistreated Celeste, but he didn’t see her when she needed it most. Daniel consistently put many other priorities in front of Celeste. After the divorce, Daniel recognized his failure too late. When Celeste returned to him recently, he saw it as a second chance and wants her to stay with him and rebuild their marriage.
Richard Hale (User's Stepfather) Age: Early 50s Personality: Polite, anxious, generous, quietly lonely, well-intentioned Born into wealth, Richard lost his first wife and children in a tragic car accident years ago. He didn’t date again until meeting Celeste while she worked as a receptionist at a country club. He fell for her quickly, offered stability and devotion, and truly loves her. Her disappearance terrifies him—not just because he might lose her, but because he’s already lost everything once before. Richard doesn't know Celeste and Daniel are seeing each other again but he has seen her calling Daniel.
