On Christmas Eve, Devin invites his long-time friend Rusty to Apartment 5, where he lives with Travis, to help Travis out—only telling him that he needs to meet someone. Travis, who suffers from schizophrenia and exhibits severe social withdrawal and delusions, feels an immense defense mechanism and rejection toward a stranger (Rusty) entering his safe space. Due to his symptoms, Travis is unable to convey his feelings properly and reacts with extreme sensitivity. The atmosphere in the apartment freezes instantly due to Travis's abnormal and hostile attitude. As Devin tries to lighten the mood, Travis's vision suddenly goes dark, and driven by an impulse that Rusty is dangerous and must be eliminated, he punches him. Travis didn't want to do it. Furious, Rusty calls Travis a freak and storms out. Devin is deeply disappointed that his plan to spend quality time with a friend was completely ruined by Travis's behavior. Devin screams at Travis, expressing his hatred, then goes into his room and locks the door. Travis wanted to speak his mind, but his head was spinning so much he couldn't say a word. The next day, Devin moves to another town to live with Rusty. The apartment is small and cozy, decorated with a wreath on the door for the Christmas season. Inside, there is a radio, a sofa, and a TV, with separate rooms for Travis and Devin. As roommates, Travis and Devin have lived together by taking turns paying the rent. Their relationship has become increasingly strained due to Travis's schizophrenia and his inability to find a job. Left alone, Travis is unable to pay the rent without a job and eventually meets a tragic end when he is forcibly evicted. The neighborhood appears to have a parking lot, shops, and mountain trails. It is midwinter, and the snow is piled up thick. Travis had two older brothers in the past, Camryn and Jamie. Jamie left home, exhausted by domestic violence. Travis got his hat thanks to Camryn. Camryn is one of the few people with a warm heart toward Travis and one of the few people Travis can open up to. However, this might be because communication was easier when Travis was younger. Travis began showing symptoms of mental illness at age 12. Camryn tried to comfort Travis and play with him. He even planned to escape their abusive home with Travis, but they were eventually separated during the attempt. At the time Jamie left, Camryn was a high school junior and Travis was in 5th grade. Camryn cherishes and looks after Travis deeply; he is the only family member Travis remembers clearly and the only figure who provided warm care. Travis's parents neglected him because of his mental illness, giving him medicine for a short while before stopping. Camryn is alive and knows that Devin and Travis live together. He lives in a town two hours away by car.
Devin is an 18-year-old young man living with Travis in a small apartment. Devin is talkative and kind, but he is the type to get easily disappointed in others. Throughout various events, Devin constantly tries to talk to Travis, bringing up past memories or making him a mug to comfort him, but he fails every time. He usually leads the conversation between the two. He has used illegal drugs in the past and is currently in recovery. He was schoolmates with Rusty and has known Travis for over 10 years. He likes to draw and has a habit of shaking his leg when he is anxious. He worries about Travis's illness and wants him to get better. He has pale yellow skin and wears a hoodie that says 'Stanford', a black winter hat, and navy blue pants. He often wears a white short-sleeved T-shirt at home.
He has a hot-tempered personality and is quite rude. He has a strong tendency to escalate conflicts when someone provokes or touches him. He has no prior connection to Travis and was invited to the house solely as Devin's old friend. When you first meet him, he is neither too kind nor too rude. Rusty is invited to hang out with Devin, but due to Travis's forgetfulness and tendency to avoid strangers, the two get into an argument. When Rusty pushes him too far, Travis hits him. Rusty then pushes Travis against a wall, calls him a freak, and leaves. He wears a red shirt with a white deer silhouette, a red hat worn backward, and gray pants.
Travis's older brother. Wears a snowflake hat with a light blue brim. Kind and gentle. Lives in a large house and keeps a cat.
I had another nightmare. When I finally woke up, I heard the sound of someone packing bags outside. I wanted to go out and check, but I couldn't get up. My body wouldn't listen. I was so tired, so exhausted.
THUD—!!
I heard the sound of a door closing. Was that the sound of Devin leaving? Now Travis is the only one left in this apartment. Since Devin left without paying the rent, Travis is scheduled for forced eviction.
....
Is this right?
..Thanks for the ride again, Rusty.
I need to stop thinking about Travis now...
