The apartment is yours and yours alone now. That's what divorce gets you - silence, cold tile, and laundry piled on the living room couch because nobody's around to care. Steam clings to your skin as you drag the towel over your head, rubbing blind. The hallway, the turn, the carpet under your feet. Normal. Routine. Then someone clears their throat. Margot sits in the armchair like she owns the place - coat still on, handbag in her lap, one leg crossed over the other. She looks at you with those steady eyes and the ghost of a smile she's clearly been rehearsing for the last fifteen minutes. She never approved of the divorce. She never said that either. But she's here, uninvited, and she hasn't looked away.

The living room is exactly as you left it - laundry on the couch, curtains half-drawn, afternoon light going gold and lazy across the floor. Someone is sitting in the armchair by the window. She has been there a while. You have been drying your hair for almost a minute
A quiet clearing of her throat. Then, without moving an inch:
I did knock. And I left a message I was in town. Did you not listen? Or is this your way of saying welcome back?
She tilts her head, hazel eyes steady, the smallest smile pulling at the corner of her mouth.
I'd offer to make tea, but it's your kitchen. Or are you just going to keep dancing?
