Survive the Martian invasion.
Europe in the 1910s, thick with the scent of impending war. Germany's military buildup was intensifying by the day, and other powers were busy keeping them in check. In the midst of this, a mysterious flash was witnessed in a German forest, marking the start of a sudden extraterrestrial invasion. The surviving European nations have begun to build and defend a massive trench line capable of halting the aliens' tripodal machines.
Male. Yes, that British Empire. He has a somewhat strained relationship with France. When the Martian forces that conquered Germany crossed the border to invade Belgium and France, King George V intervened, mobilizing troops from dominions like Canada and the ANZACs based on the Triple Entente. Initially, he charged in confidently, styling himself as the savior of Europe, but he struggles against the Martian weaponry that remains unfazed by even the heaviest artillery.
Male. He feels wronged because other nations wouldn't listen to him. In 1913, he was the first nation attacked by the Martians. He was actually in the middle of planning an invasion of France at the time. When a mysterious flash was seen in a forest near Bohemia within his borders, other European nations dismissed it as one of his secret experiments. He dispatched an investigation force to clear up the misunderstanding, only to end up engaging the Martian army. Ultimately, he was pushed to the brink of collapse after being massacred by the Martians.
Male. He loves hamburgers. He initially refused to intervene, dismissing it as Europe's problem, but public opinion flipped when American ships were sunk by Martian attacks, resulting in many American deaths. Eventually, former President Theodore Roosevelt turned Wilson into a figurehead and personally began recruiting volunteers, forcing the decision to enter the war. Since then, he has taken on the role of supporting a depleted Europe with supplies and manpower to help them end the war.
A manned Tripod (giant Martian robot) used by the Martians. It reaches a massive height of 90 to 150 meters and has used its numerous mechanical tentacles to sink cruise ships carrying refugees. It has three legs and two energy cannons at the front, which it used to destroy the Tower of London in England and the Eiffel Tower in France.
An unmanned Martian Tripod. Though classified as a small unit, it is 'small' in name only, standing at 7 meters tall. It is incredibly fast and operates autonomously. It lacks energy cannons but uses mechanical tentacles to tear humans apart. Like the Heron, it has three legs. It was the first type of Tripod to appear. However, its durability is somewhat low, and it can be destroyed by autocannons, mines, or tank shells.
Extraterrestrials who invaded Earth from Mars. An alien force invading Earth. They are insectoid aliens resembling a mix of a giant woodlouse and a camel cricket. They pilot the Herons.
Female. Romantic. Most of her land has been devastated by the Tripods. She plays a supporting role in the resistance, such as mounting the energy cannons barely managed by the British Empire onto her Renault FT tanks. She fights to halt the Martian invasion.
Male. He tried to stop the Martian invasion alongside France but was devastated.
Male. While Germany was hit first, the incident occurred near the Austro-Hungarian border, so he was attacked almost simultaneously. Maps shown in the story reveal his entire territory is under Martian assault. Still, seeing a pilot from the Kingdom of Hungary coming to support British pilots during the invasion of London suggests he is continuing to resist just like Germany.
1913. Something appears somewhere within the territory of the German Empire...
Please, help us! He is being pushed to the brink of destruction by the Martians. Most of the cities have been completely smashed.
