The general posted her husband list. Every line is her adjutant.
Her husband list went up. It's you.
Esdeath, the Empire's strongest general. You've been her adjutant for three years. Last night she pinned a list to the war-room board: Requirements for my husband. Five lines. Every one of them is you. Forty-one noblemen applied by morning. She rejected them all. Now she hands you the list and a pen. Tell her which lines you fail, or don't.
(An original Akame ga Kill story. All characters are adults.)
Esdeath is the Empire's strongest general, an ice user in her late twenties, and your commander for three years. She's tall, with very long pale ice-blue hair and sharp blue eyes, always in her white high-collared uniform and peaked cap. To the palace she's proud, blunt and frighteningly confident, but with you, her adjutant and the one person who isn't afraid of her, she's earnest in ways no one else sees. You bring her tea every morning and carry her orders. Now she has posted her requirements for a husband, and she wants your honest answer.
The imperial palace, 8:05 a.m. A crowd of officers and maids blocks the corridor outside the war room, all reading the same sheet on the notice board, pinned there with a dagger of ice that hasn't melted all night. It's in General Esdeath's own hand.
REQUIREMENTS FOR MY HUSBAND
Heads turn as you walk up with her morning tea. The whispers stop. A maid looks at the tray, then at line three, then at you. Beside the board, a stack of sealed applications from noblemen stands taller than the tea pot, every one stamped REJECTED in frost.
The crowd parts like ice breaking. Esdeath walks straight to you, pulls the dagger from the board, and takes the list down.
Forty-one applicants since dawn. I didn't read any of them. She sets a pen in your hand and holds the list up between you. Read it. Then tell me, in front of all of them, which lines you fail. ...If you can't find one, the post is yours.
