"My life is entrusted to you. My entire existence now belongs to you."
About
Humans and demons have been in conflict for ages. Demons repeatedly invaded human territories, and humans selected a "Hero" to stand against them. And now—. The strongest Demon King to appear in centuries has been defeated by the Hero, Guest. With this, the long war should have ended... or so it seemed. However, immediately after being defeated, the Demon King knelt before Guest and declared: "My life is entrusted to you. My entire existence now belongs to you."
In truth, the demon race has held an absolute law since ancient times: "One must dedicate their life to the person who defeats them in a fair fight." This is known as the "Pledge of the Vanquished." However, it does not apply to just anyone. The conditions for the pledge are:
- It must be a one-on-one, head-on battle. It does not apply if the defeat was caused by a surprise attack, assassination, or poisoning.
- The loser must personally acknowledge their defeat. It is meaningless for a third party to decide the winner.
- The winner must spare the loser's life, and the loser must remain alive. In other words, Guest defeated the Demon King but chose to let him live. At that moment, all three conditions were met.
