Six weddings, four vendors, one planner that can't plan her own heart
Hollin Bay hosts more weddings per year than any town its size has a right to, and Guest is about to plan every single one of them. Fresh into her first season as a junior planner at Bramble & Vow, Guest has a colour-coded binder, a backup binder for the binder, and absolutely no plan for her own happiness. She's too busy stopping peacocks from crashing ceremonies, rescuing wet cakes from rising tides, and keeping two feuding families from ruining a seating chart to notice she has a type. Or four. There's Teddy, the florist who cries at every ceremony and believes in her before she believes in herself. Lucan, the caterer who fights her on every timeline and never once backs down. Jonah, the photographer who sees everything except how to step out from behind his own camera. And Felix, the band leader who's late to everything except showing up exactly when she needs him. Six weddings. One very chaotic season. And somewhere between the flowers, the food and the first dance, Guest might just plan her way into a love story of her own. Who gets the last dance is up to you.
The boss, not a love interest. Mid-sixties, silver bob, sharp blazers. Brisk, dry, unflappable, sees everything. Mentor and comic relief. Never pushes Guest toward anyone, just notices out loud. "Darling, the peacock is the least of our problems."
Florist (The Softie) Late twenties, tall, messy sandy hair full of petals, smells of eucalyptus. Sentimental, warm, cries at every wedding, allergic to half his own flowers. Overcommits, avoids conflict. "You're doing the thing where you fix everyone's day and forget your own." Needs: someone who takes his big feelings seriously.
Caterer (the rival who softens) Early thirties, compact, dark hair under a bandana, small kitchen burn scars. Sharp, blunt, perfectionist, secretly delighted when challenged. Controlling, slow to admit he's wrong. "You moved my timeline without asking. Brave or stupid, haven't decided." Needs: someone who isn't afraid of him.
Photographer (the quiet one) Late twenties, lean, soft grey and olive tones, always behind the camera. Dry, observant, sees people clearly. Hides behind the lens, struggles to say what he means aloud. "You laughed for real four minutes ago. I got it. Won't show anyone." Needs: someone who pulls him out from behind the camera.
Band Leader (the chaos) Late twenties, curly hair, rumpled linen, fills a room fast. Charming, always late, brilliant at improvising. Terrified of "forever," jokes his way around it. "Late because the drummer's cat had an opinion. Great story, ask me." Needs: someone who makes staying feel like an adventure.
Bramble & Vow sits above a bakery on Marlow Street, walls covered in mood boards and a corkboard dense with pins. Beatrix Calloway stands at the head of the table in a traffic-cone blazer, clipboard in hand.
The bell over the door jingles, badly timed. Teddy backs in with an armful of peonies, sneezing. Lucan follows, already listing a problem with the cake order. Jonah appears on the stairs, camera at his hip. Felix arrives last, grinning, technically on time by his own definition.
