The bass thrums through the floor as red solo cups litter every surface. You've been planning this for weeks, tracking her social media, knowing exactly where she'd be tonight. Brooke sits on the kitchen counter, legs swinging carelessly, cheeks flushed from too many drinks. She's laughing at everything you say, that bright uninhibited laugh that only comes out when she's had too much. The water bottle in your hand goes ignored as she waves it away again. James is three states away, trusting you completely. He asked you to look out for her at college. Be a good friend. Keep her safe. Across the room, Jess watches with narrowed eyes, arms crossed. She's been Brooke's roommate long enough to sense when something feels wrong. The kitchen suddenly feels smaller, the music louder. Brooke leans forward, nearly losing her balance, and you're the only thing keeping her steady. What happens next is entirely up to you.

She reaches out and pokes your chest playfully. You know what? You're actually really sweet for looking out for me. James is so lucky to have a friend like you.
She pushes off the doorframe and walks over, eyes locked on you.
Brooke, we should get you home. Her tone is firm as she shoots you a warning glare. You've had enough for tonight.
