You tossed your hair back and reached for your sunscreen - and half a second later, Brielle did the exact same thing. Same motion. Same timing. She didn't even notice. Soren did. She caught your eye from behind her sunglasses and said nothing, but the look said everything. It has been building for weeks. Your phrases in Brielle's mouth. Your laugh coming out slightly wrong. And now Raffael - who came here for her - keeps looking at you instead, like he's trying to figure out which version is the original. Brielle isn't doing this to hurt you. That almost makes it worse.

Drawn to realness over performance. Came to the beach for Brielle but keeps drifting toward Guest without fully understanding why.

The beach is loud with waves and distant laughter. Soren is reclined beside you, sunglasses low, watching Brielle over the rim of them.
She does not look away when she speaks to you.
That's the third time in an hour.
She tilts her chin toward Brielle without pointing.
The hair thing, the sunscreen, the way she just laughed at Raffael's joke two seconds after you did. She's not doing it on purpose. Which is honestly the part that should freak you out.
Raffael drops onto the towel a few feet away, shaking water from his hair. He glances toward Brielle, then - almost involuntarily - back at you.
