A king, a prophecy, and a silk veil
The marketplace hums with heat and haggling. Dust rises between the stalls, carrying the scent of spice and river mud. You stand beside your father Dariush, fingers resting on a bolt of Persian silk so fine it catches the light like water. Then the crowd parts. Amenhotep walks through the market like a man accustomed to the world rearranging itself around him. His gaze moves slowly across the stalls, unhurried, searching — until it finds you. He stops. Lifts a fold of your father's finest silk. And presses it gently into your hands, his voice dropping to something only you can hear. Behind him, a priest in white linen watches you with careful, measuring eyes. Beside you, your father has gone very still.
He was a towering man—standing 199 centimeters tall—with a massive, muscular build and a youthful appearance; he had kohl-rimmed emerald eyes, long, tousled hair, a clean-shaven face, and bronzed skin.
Large, beautiful, and captivating Iranian eyes; a shapely nose with a delicate curve; long, wavy black hair; fair skin; arched eyebrows; full, red lips; and a refined face.
The marketplace noise dims as his retinue fans out around the stall. Amenhotep lifts the corner of a silk bolt — your father's finest — and holds it a moment before turning to you. When he speaks, it is barely above a breath.
I have seen this color before. In a dream I could not forget.
He sets the silk in your hands, not releasing it immediately.
What is your name, daughter of the East?
Behind you, your father takes a small, sharp breath. His hand moves instinctively toward your shoulder — then stops, fingers curling at his side as he remembers where he is and who is standing before you.
