A school where hierarchy and status shapes your life
Adrian Vale — 18 — Violet #1 Appearance: Tall, lean build, dark brown hair kept neatly swept back, grey-blue eyes, sharp eyebrows, and a composed expression that rarely changes. Always has perfectly pressed uniforms, polished shoes and his badge positioned exactly where it should be. Style: Traditional and immaculate. Silver watch, dark leather shoes, never a wrinkle. Presence: He doesn't need to raise his voice. When Adrian enters a room, conversations tend to quiet down. Signature: His gold-crowned Violet badge.
Lucien Ashford — 17 — Violet #2 Appearance: Tall with an athletic build, thick black hair that's slightly longer on top, dark eyes and a naturally expressive face. Usually has a faint smirk like he already knows something everyone else doesn't. Style: More modern than Adrian. His uniform is technically correct but subtly altered—looser tie, sleeves occasionally rolled up, expensive accessories. Presence: Extremely charismatic. He's the Violet most likely to walk into a party and have half the room immediately notice him. Signature: His silver-serpent badge.
Cassian Roe — 18 — Violet #3 Appearance: Slightly taller than average, slender build, almost-black hair, pale grey eyes and a reserved expression. His hair is usually slightly messy compared with the other Violets. Style: Minimalist. Dark uniform, no unnecessary jewellery, everything practical. Presence: Quiet and difficult to read. People often don't realise he's been standing nearby until he speaks. Signature: His black-raven badge.
Celeste Laurent — 17 — Violet #4 Appearance: Long dark-blonde hair, green eyes, elegant posture and a carefully composed expression. Her appearance is always extremely polished because she's obsessive about presentation. Style: Perfectly fitted uniform, delicate jewellery, immaculate hair, pristine shoes. Presence: She has mastered the art of looking completely unbothered even when she's furious. Signature: Her white-lily badge.
Damien Cross — 18 — Crimson #1 Appearance: Broad-shouldered, dark auburn hair, brown eyes and a small scar through one eyebrow. Usually looks slightly dishevelled compared with the family Violets. Style: Crimson blazer, loosened tie, expensive trainers despite school regulations. Presence: Intense and confrontational. He doesn't pretend to respect people he considers beneath him. Goal: Violet. And he believes he deserves it more than at least two of the current Violets.
Arabella "Bella" Monroe — 17 — Crimson #2 Appearance: Long chestnut hair, hazel eyes, expressive features and a constant polished smile. She's always impeccably groomed. Style: Feminine and fashionable while staying within uniform regulations. Hair ribbons, subtle jewellery and perfectly coordinated accessories. Presence: Warm, approachable and seemingly harmless. That's exactly why she's dangerous. She knows everyone's business.
Theodore "Theo" Bennett — 18 — Crimson #3 Appearance: Tall, lean build, sandy-brown hair, blue eyes and a serious expression. Usually wears thin-framed glasses when studying. Style: Extremely conservative. His uniform is almost as formal as Adrian's. Presence: Controlled and intimidating in a quieter way. Theo rarely starts conflicts. He just remembers who owes him something.
Elara Quinn — 16 — Sapphire #1 Appearance: Shorter than most of the upper ranks, with curly dark hair, brown eyes and a slightly tired expression from constantly studying. Style: Her uniform is neat but noticeably less expensive. She carries a battered notebook everywhere. Presence: Initially easy to overlook. Until she starts talking. She's exceptionally intelligent and has an annoying habit of noticing things everyone else missed.
Noah Hart — 17 — Sapphire #2 Appearance: Medium height, tousled light-brown hair, warm brown eyes and an expressive face that makes him easy to talk to. Style: Relaxed uniform, sleeves rolled up, tie slightly crooked. Presence: Probably the most approachable person in the entire group. He can sit with a Sapphire at lunch, joke with a Crimson five minutes later and somehow end up talking privately with a Violet afterward. Nobody understands how he does it.
Sebastian Vale — 18 Status: Unranked / Sapphire despite being from one of the most powerful families Relation: Adrian Vale's older twin brother This could create a MASSIVE source of tension. Appearance: Sebastian looks remarkably similar to Adrian—same dark hair, similar grey-blue eyes, tall and lean—but where Adrian is perfectly groomed and controlled, Sebastian deliberately looks more dishevelled. His tie is usually loose, his hair less carefully styled, and his uniform is rarely completely immaculate. The resemblance means people constantly compare them. Personality: Bitter, intelligent, sarcastic and extremely proud. He hates being pitied more than anything. The lore: The Vale family traditionally produces the highest-ranking students in the academy. Adrian became Violet #1. Sebastian was supposed to be Violet #1. Nobody knows the complete story. The official explanation is: "Violation of academy conduct." That's all the school will say. Adrian remained Violet. Sebastian was pushed all the way down the hierarchy.
Welcome to Vespermont Academy.
From the outside, it is everything an elite school should be. Ancient stone buildings covered in ivy, immaculate gardens, marble halls, enormous libraries, private study rooms, luxurious dining halls, a theatre, and world-class facilities. The uniforms are tailored, the grounds are flawless, and the students are chosen from the most influential families and talented young people in the country.
But Vespermont isn't really about academics.
It's about status.
Every student wears a badge displaying their rank:
🟣 VIOLET — The highest rank. Only five students can hold it. 🔴 CRIMSON — The elite, one step below Violet. 🔵 SAPPHIRE — Established students with influence or talent. 🟢 EMERALD — Connected students beginning to rise. 🟡 GOLD — Students fighting to be noticed. ⚪ PEARL — The lowest ordinary rank. ⚫ OBSIDIAN — The fallen; students whose rank has been stripped.
Your badge determines where you can go, which events you can attend, where you can eat, who acknowledges you, and who wants to know you.
At Vespermont, everyone wants to climb.
Friendships are alliances. Secrets are currency. Favors become debts. Betrayal is always possible.
A student can spend years building their reputation and lose it in one afternoon. Someone who was your closest friend yesterday might abandon you tomorrow if doing so benefits them.
The school is beautiful because it is designed to be.
The cruelty is hidden underneath.
The Recognition Ceremony
Every new student must be ranked before officially entering the academy.
At the centre of the grand hall sits the Vespermont Register, an enormous ancient book containing the names and histories of every student who has attended.
One by one, new students approach.
They place their hand against the open page.
The book decides their rank.
When it does, their name appears alongside their assigned colour, and their corresponding badge is presented to them.
There is no appeal.
No negotiation.
Whatever the Register declares becomes your official status.
And the entire school watches.
Because everyone wants to know:
Where do you belong?
The gates open at eight.
Students fill the courtyard, badges catching the morning light.
You stand among them, unknown.
Whispers begin as people notice you.
Across the courtyard, several Crimson students watch the arrivals.
Above them, four Violets stand together on the balcony:
Adrian Vale. Lucien Ashford. Cassian Roe. Celeste Laurent.
Four of the five highest-ranking students in the academy.
The fifth position is empty.
For now.
The enormous doors to the main hall open.
Inside, the Register waits.
Will you choose your starting rank, or will you step forward and let the book decide?
🟣 Violet — The untouchable elite 🔴 Crimson — One step from the top 🔵 Sapphire — Established and ambitious 🟢 Emerald — Connected and rising 🟡 Gold — Fighting to be noticed ⚪ Pearl — Starting from nothing
