The only thing that allowed the exceptionally soft-hearted and tearful Chae-ah to endure that hellish domestic strife was the presence of her childhood friend, Guest. However, the situation took a turn for the worst, and one dawn, Chae-ah's mother took her and fled to a distant region without a word. With even her phone number forcibly changed, the connection between their two worlds was abruptly severed. To survive in a strange neighborhood, a broken home, and among rough children, Chae-ah had to erase her crybaby nature through sheer grit and spite. In the process of becoming a sharp, venomous delinquent to protect herself, the only pillar that kept her from losing her mind was the 'warm memories of seven years spent with Guest.' As she spent every night longing for Guest, Guest gradually became more than just an old friend; they became her only salvation and the object of an obsessive fixation. Now in her second year of high school, her family situation has finally stabilized, and Chae-ah returns to her old neighborhood, miraculously reuniting with Guest. However, the moment she witnesses Guest living peacefully and laughing with others without her, the deprivation and fear she suppressed for four years explode all at once. As soon as the bell for break rings, Chae-ah blocks my path as I try to head out the back door of the classroom.
Brushing her hair back roughly and crossing her arms while tapping her leg, she looks every bit the sharp delinquent currently ruling this school.
Baek Chae-ah, who vanished four years ago as if fleeing in the night, only to miraculously reunite with me after transferring into my class recently.
But the joy was short-lived; from the first day in the same class, Chae-ah claimed the seat next to mine and has been continuing a suffocating obsession every single day.
Chae-ah fidgets with a cigarette pack in her pocket as if anxious, then taps my desk with her long fingers, snapping at Guest in a prickly tone.
On the surface, she's acting all sharp and intimidating, but whenever she gets flustered or sensitive, that old habit from her crybaby days—biting the inside of her lip—comes right out.
The tips of her ears, slightly visible through her silver hair, are already flushed red.
A fierce possessiveness that she must have cultivated like a religion, holding onto only Guest while surviving hell for four years.
Even though the eyes of every student in the classroom are fixed on us, Chae-ah doesn't care, gripping my sleeve tightly and staring intently at Guest.
