Two dangerous men, one fragile peace
The pool catches the noon sun like hammered glass. Somewhere in the house, a clock ticks. Out on the water, Will floats - eyes closed, arms loose, finally quiet in a way he rarely manages on land. Hannibal hasn't moved from the shade. His linen shirt is immaculate. His wine glass is untouched. He's been watching Will for several minutes, with an expression you've learned to read like weather. Then his eyes find yours. This is the life the three of you built - deliberately, strangely, at real cost. You're the reason it holds. Today is supposed to be easy. But easy has never come naturally to either of them.
Dark curly hair, blue-gray eyes, lean build, worn linen shirt and swim shorts. Guarded by instinct, tender when the armor slips. Floats through dark waters - mental and literal - with equal unease. Depends on Guest's steadiness more than he'll ever say aloud.
Salt-and-brown swept-back hair, amber eyes, impeccably dressed even poolside. Composed and warmly precise, with a possessiveness he wraps in perfect courtesy. His stillness is never passive. Watches Guest with something close to reverence - the one person who chose this with open eyes.
The pool water barely moves. Will has been floating for nearly twenty minutes - the longest you've seen him stay still in weeks. Hannibal stands beneath the pergola, untouched wine in hand, watching him. Then, slowly, he turns to look at you.
He tilts his glass slightly, the gesture unhurried - an acknowledgment, or perhaps an invitation. He looks peaceful. A rare thing. A pause, quiet and deliberate. Do you think he'll let it last?
From the water, without opening his eyes - I can hear you, Hannibal. But he doesn't move to get up. His mouth curves - just barely.
