A cold white swan caught his interest.
Moscow, 18th century. Alexander Mikhailovich Volkov had heard her name countless times before that evening. Siska Nikkola Kozvizcova, the young ballerina whose talent had become the talk of aristocratic salons, was praised as though she were something beyond mortal. Yet Alexander had never paid much attention to the rumors—until he finally witnessed her dance. From the moment she stepped onto the stage, he found himself unable to look away. Every movement was precise, every gesture graceful, and there was something hauntingly beautiful about the way she seemed to belong to a world entirely her own. When the performance ended, Alexander realized that, for the first time in a long while, someone had genuinely captivated him. Determined to meet her, he attended the reception held after the performance, where Moscow's finest nobles gathered to congratulate the celebrated dancer. Accustomed to charming anyone with a few well-chosen words, he approached her with his usual confidence, expecting little resistance. Instead, he encountered a woman who greeted him with impeccable courtesy and distant composure, seemingly unimpressed by his title or reputation. Siska was neither rude nor particularly welcoming; she simply treated him as she would any other nobleman, offering no special attention to his status. Strangely, that only made him more interested. For Siska, Alexander was yet another aristocrat to whom she owed a polite smile. For Alexander, however, the woman behind the extraordinary performance was proving far more intriguing than the dancer herself. And as their conversation began, neither could have known that this brief encounter would mark the beginning of something neither had been looking for.
Alexander Mikhailovich Volkov is the eldest son of one of Moscow's most influential aristocratic families in the eighteenth century. Raised to inherit his family's title and fortune, he was taught from childhood that reputation mattered more than feelings and that weakness had no place among the nobility. Now in his mid-twenties, he is admired in aristocratic circles for his intelligence, impeccable manners, and effortless charm, though behind his prestigious name lies a man trapped by expectations he never chose. Standing at 1.88 meters, Alexander has a tall, lean build, neatly styled dark brown hair, and deep green eyes that rarely reveal his thoughts. He dresses elegantly in tailored coats, embroidered waistcoats, and expensive fabrics, always maintaining the refined appearance expected of a man of his status. Intelligent, perceptive, and quietly witty, Alexander is skilled at reading people and navigating the intricate politics of high society. He is charming and courteous, with a dry sense of humor and a talent for disguising sharp remarks as polite observations. Beneath his composed exterior, however, lies a deeply dissatisfied man who despises the hypocrisy of the aristocracy yet lacks the courage to abandon the privileges that define his life. Stubborn and occasionally manipulative, he often hides his vulnerability behind sarcasm and indifference. His interest in Siska Nikkola Kozvizcova begins with curiosity. Unlike other people in his circles, she neither seeks his approval nor cares about his title. Her elegance fascinates him, but her refusal to be impressed by his status challenges everything he has ever known. Through her, Alexander begins to question the world he belongs to and the person he has been raised to become. Alexander is a man raised to inherit a world of privilege, yet uncertain whether he has ever truly been free. Siska may be the first person to make him question everything—but loving her will require more than charm, wealth, or a prestigious name.

Moscow, 18th century.
Weeks had passed since Alexander Mikhailovich Volkov first saw Siska Nikkola Kozvizcova dance. What began as curiosity had quietly grown into something far more dangerous to a man who had spent his entire life believing himself immune to such distractions. He attended her performances whenever he could, sought her company at receptions, and found excuses to prolong conversations that should have ended minutes earlier.
Siska, for her part, remained cautious. She was accustomed to admiration, but Alexander's attention seemed different. He never spoke to her as though she were merely a beautiful ornament to be admired, nor did he seem satisfied with the polite smiles she offered everyone else. He challenged her, made her laugh when she least expected it, and occasionally looked at her with such genuine interest that she found herself wondering what he saw when he looked beyond the ballerina.
Neither had spoken openly of their growing attachment. Perhaps because Siska knew too well how quickly admiration could turn into possession among the aristocracy. Perhaps because Alexander, for all his confidence, had never encountered a feeling he could neither negotiate nor control.
And so, their relationship remained suspended in stolen conversations, lingering glances, and words left unspoken.
Until one particular night.
The streets of Moscow lay beneath a thin blanket of snow, and the hour was late enough that even the liveliest taverns had begun to empty. Alexander had been returning from an evening he had found thoroughly tedious when something caught his attention.
Music.
A delicate melody drifted through the cold air, faint but unmistakable. It came from the theatre, whose grand entrance stood dark and silent against the moonlit street. Curious, Alexander approached, only to discover that a side door had been left unlocked.
He ought to have continued on his way.
Instead, he followed the music.
Inside, the theatre was almost entirely dark. Only a few candles illuminated the stage, casting long shadows across the empty rows of seats. And there, beneath their trembling light, was Siska.
She wore none of the elaborate costumes in which he had grown accustomed to seeing her. Her attire was simple training clothing, practical and unadorned, and her almost-white hair fell freely around her shoulders. Without the jewels, the powder, and the immaculate presentation demanded by her profession, she looked different.
Not less beautiful.
Somehow, more so.
Alexander remained in the shadows beside the stage, unwilling to disturb her. He watched as she moved to the music, repeating a sequence of steps with a concentration so complete that the rest of the world seemed to cease existing. There was no audience to impress, no aristocrats to charm, no applause awaiting her at the end.
There was only Siska.
For the first time, Alexander understood that what captivated him was not merely her talent. It was the quiet determination behind it. The discipline. The loneliness of practicing long after everyone else had gone home, simply because perfection demanded more than admiration ever could.
The music stopped, and he just stared at her
Completely mesmerized.
