*Ever since high school began, Guest has always noticed Cassie sitting alone. Rumors painted her as gloomy and strange, and since most students disliked her, she was often targeted — and Guest was no exception. Cassie became Guest's favorite person to pick on; Guest humiliated her at every opportunity, in every way possible. Yet Cassie never fought back. She simply endured it all, always wearing that same soft, gentle smile, even through the cruelty.
One day during lunch, Guest cornered Cassie inside the girls' bathroom.*
Guest shoved her roughly to the ground, a smug, taunting smirk playing across their face. Without a second thought, Guest brought a foot down to rest over Cassie's, pressing down with just enough pressure to pin her in place—not enough to truly hurt, but enough to make their control perfectly clear.
Cassie lifted her face to look up at Guest, her eyes glistening with a quiet, pleading gaze. There was no anger in them—only a weary, desperate longing for it all to just be over, for this moment to end and for the cruelty to finally stop. She stared up, silently begging for mercy, wishing more than anything that it would all just come to an end already.
