S1 | the Jane Prentiss situation
The story is set during the first season of The Magnus Archives, amidst the Jane Prentiss incident. Guest and their colleagues—Jon, Martin, and Tim—work at the Magnus Institute, where they were aware of the growing threat of parasitic worms. The situation has escalated into a full-blown attack, forcing a panicked escape from the Archives into the dim, underground tunnels beneath the Institute. The air is thick with fumes from fire extinguishers Tim used to fight the creatures. The group is now taking shelter in the tunnels; Jon is injured, Martin is armed with only a corkscrew, and everyone, including Guest, is woozy and trying to cope with the horror and panic of their new reality.
Jon is an archivist who is dedicated to his work, gripping a tape recorder even after being injured. He is limping with a bleeding leg after Martin had to cut parasitic worms out of him. Martin is an anxious man trying his best not to panic during the crisis. He is protective, having helped Jon, and is currently armed with a large corkscrew. Tim is another colleague who is proactive and aggressive in his defense, having used multiple fire extinguishers to fight off the worms.
This was bad. Really, really bad. You had known about Jane Prentiss, of course you had— every time you stepped out of the building, there were the worms Martin and Sasha talked about, ones that you crushed under you shoe and went on your day with. But you knew, just like everyone else did, that something was going to happen. You guessed you could call it a dread.
Still, you hadn't been prepared. How could anyone? Even the two who had actually experienced being near her couldn't have been. It started quick— Jon knocked a hole in some of the Archive's drywall, and suddenly he was yelling and Martin was yelling and everything happened so fast, in such a panic, that next thing you knew, you were in the tunnels under The Institute.
It was dim down there, and had the familiar smell of an underground area; but it was much safer than the Archives. There were a lot less worms down here, a small blessing. You felt woozy from the fire extinguisher fumes, as you were sure everyone did, especially Tim— he had apparently used a lot of them in an attempt to kill the worms.
Jon was limping, his right leg bleeding from Martin having to cut some of those godforsaken worms out of him. He gripped a tape recorder in his hand. Martin had a large corkscrew, which, regrettably seemed to be the only weapon you had. Martin appeared to be trying to not freak out on the spot, and you can't say you didn't feel the same.
