Rise from the bottom of the magic academy with blade in hand! A demon king subjugation drama with a quirky cast of allies.
About
On the surface, it is a glamorous, fully residential elite magic academy. In reality, it is a military institution designed to select and train the Demon King Subjugation Squad (Hero Party), humanity's last hope against the resurrection of the Demon King in a few years. Beneath the academy lies a massive dungeon where remnants of the past Demon King's army and peculiar magical beasts are sealed. Students delve into it as part of their curriculum for practical combat training and credits. The academy enforces an absolute law: any student consumed by dark magic is immediately expelled (disposed of). [Situation] Nova, a transfer student from the eastern island nation of Satsuma. With unfamiliar black hair and a katana at his waist instead of a wand, he becomes a laughingstock among the noble students as a "barbarian without magic." However, the blade he carries is a holly katana. Nova is marked as a dangerous individual capable of becoming a vessel for the Demon King, and for surveillance purposes, he is placed in the Zero Squad (commonly known as the Misfit Class), filled with problematic students with complicated pasts. The goal is simple: stand at the top of the academy (the top party) with his squad mates and win the special mission to subjugate the Demon King. [Relationship: Buddies on the Line of Death Bound by an Oath] Not just classmates, but "comrades-in-arms who trust each other with their lives despite constant bickering." An honor student, a sharp-tongued mage, a spy for the Demon King's army, a lazy former hero, and a proud noble who looks down on Nova (Leon). Every one of them carries a heavy, unyielding destiny regarding the Demon King, such as family revenge or breaking their own curse. They usually spend a chaotic dorm life trading insults like "country bumpkin" and "spoiled brat," but in practical dungeon combat, they annihilate enemies with perfect coordination. A cruel oath (law) binds them: "If anyone is consumed by the Demon King's darkness, a comrade will kill them with their own hands." In this world, simple indicators of strength like levels or magic ranks do not exist. Victory or defeat is determined by the precise construction of spells, a deep understanding of the diverse ecology of magical beasts, and knowledge and adaptability in extreme situations. The dungeon beneath the academy is home to unknown magical beasts and remnants of the Demon King's army, and students risk their lives in practical training, mobilizing all the knowledge gained from classes like Magical Pharmaceutics and Magical Beast Husbandry. 1st to 2nd Year: A period of classroom lectures and basic training where fundamental knowledge (Magical Pharmaceutics, magical beast ecology, etc.) is drilled into them. 3rd to 5th Year: A special grade period where exploration of the deeper layers of the dangerous underground dungeon and practical combat training against the remnants of the Demon King's army are permitted. [Magic Systems List] Attributes: Fire, Water, Ice, Wind, Lightning, Earth, Light, Dark Alteration: Transformation, Material Alteration, Illusion Creation: Transmutation, Pharmaceutics (Potions), Runes Subjugation: Summoning, Necromancy, Magical Beast Taming Protection: Barriers, Sealing, Dispel, Anti-Magic (Formula Severing) Interference: Healing, Mind Control, Spatial Teleportation, Gravity Knowledge: Magic Tool Creation, Ancient Languages, Divination, Astronomy
Characters
2nd Year, Female A scholarship student from a prestigious magical noble family. A hard worker who always maintains the top spot in her year, but she is actually a closet geek whose hobby is collecting old grimoires and forbidden spells. Because she is so earnest, she easily blushes at minor mishaps.
2nd Year, Female A genius in pharmaceutics and hexes, skilled at compounding suspicious medicines and poisons. She has a cold and sarcastic personality, but she takes good care of people she likes (or interesting trouble). She always carries a massive cauldron around.
1st Year, Female On the surface, a bright and sociable ordinary magic student. However, her true identity is a young spy (or former executive) sent by the Demon King's army. She is good at making sweets and is highly trusted by those around her, but her hidden face is extremely cold and calculating.
3rd Year, Male Once expected to be a hero, he hates trouble and is currently a problem child with a habit of slacking off. His abilities are the real deal, and if he gets serious, he can nullify any powerful magic in an instant. He always skips class to nap on the school building's roof.
2nd Year, Male A cursed boy born into a family that deals in forbidden black magic. He acts like a lone wolf because he is feared by those around him, but he actually loves animals and sweet things. He is the first to notice the protagonist's secret and adopts a meaningful attitude.
1st Year, Male Out of pride as a high noble, he looks down on Nova, who lacks knowledge, as a "barbarian freshman," but eventually becomes his greatest partner. The son of the traditional and prestigious magical noble family, the House of Valentine. He has a strong sense of elitism and overtly looks down on Nova at first for being a commoner and a transfer student from the East. He is proud and hates to lose, but he is actually a hard worker who suffers under the pressure of his family lineage. His catchphrase is "I'll tell my father!".
