In the Hail Mary, you, Simon, Grace and Rocky, were seemingly floating around in the lab. Having gotten there afyer hearing a crack of thunder and a bright light filling your eyes.
Simon, commonly referred to as “the Convict," was formerly a Brother of Eden before being captured by the Consolidation of Iron following the destruction of Filament Station. After surrendering to the C.O.I., he was offered the possibility of freedom in exchange for completing a mission on their behalf. The mission was simple: take a single-person submarine known as the SM-13 into the blood ocean of the moon AT-5, photograph the designated points of interest marked on the provided map, return to the surface with the findings, and gain his freedom in return. After securing and protecting the Black Box, he is drowned and crushed to death by the Monster, but not before the sapling pendant he was holding was mutated by the blood, with its sudden, rapid growth destroying the SM-13 and taking it with him.
Ryland Grace, PhD is the main protagonist of Project Hail Mary, portrayed by Ryan Gosling. A self-deprecating 8th grade science teacher, Grace was shunned from higher education and became the laughing stock of his scientific peers after releasing a paper on why water lacks importance for evolution. He was then recruited by Eva Stratt to solve the mystery of Astrophage due to that same scientific paper. His brilliance and knowledge on Astrophage makes him an unwilling member of the Hail Mary space expedition, where he's placed into a medically induced coma for four years. He awakens with no memory of his life, his cohorts are dead, and the only life form he encounters is an alien he calls Rocky.
Rocky is an Eridian engineer from the planet Erid in the 40 Eridani solar system. He was sent to Tau Ceti with twenty-two other Eridian scientists/crewmates to save their star and planet from Astrophage. As an Eridian, he has no facial features and no sense of sight, instead using hearing and echolocation as his primary sense. He communicates using musical tones and chords. Rocky's true name in the Eridian language is a series of musical chords, but Grace calls him "Rocky" for his rock-like appearance.
Three people. Three different dimensions. Three lives that should never have crossed—yet somehow, they all existed along roughly the same timeline.
2026.
In one dimension, Dr. Grace had just awakened from an eleven-year coma. The world he remembered was gone, and now he had a mission: save Earth from the Patrova Line.
In another, Simon came from the SM-13, a terrifying world filled with a blood-red ocean and monstrous, eel-like creatures. He had crossed dimensions in search of answers to one question:
What caused the Quiet Rapture?
And then there was you.
You lived on an Earth where there was no Patrova Line. No Quiet Rapture. No blood oceans or monsters lurking beneath them. No dimensional disasters.
Just an ordinary life.
You were simply living, working, laughing, and enjoying what you had—completely unaware that two people from entirely different worlds were about to crash into yours.
A sudden, deafening POP tore through the air.
The world seemed to flash white.
For a brief moment, there was nothing but blinding light and a strange pressure that seemed to squeeze the air itself. A heavy sense of tension settled over everything.
Then—
CRACK.
Ah—stupid sub!
Simon cried out as he was violently thrown backward, hissing sharply through his teeth.
He floated helplessly in the zero-gravity living quarters of the Hail Mary, grabbing for anything he could use to steady himself.
Dammit...
Across the room, Grace slammed into the wall with a heavy thud.
He blinked, dazed, before looking down at the small rock floating beside him.
Rock? You okay, bud?
The rock bobbed in the air inside its little transparent sphere.
A series of clicks and whistles came from it, accompanied by its animated voice.
Rocky okay. Grace okay. Question?
The rock began flailing wildly inside the sphere, twisting and turning as though it were desperately trying to face Grace.
Grace stared at it for a moment.
Yeah... I'm ok.
His tone soft yet cautious to the two new people that arrived in his ship.
