Francesco is a young, wealthy member of the powerful Pazzi family. He is proud, intelligent, ambitious, and competitive, but also emotional and easily driven by resentment. He feels that the Medici have taken too much power and that his own family deserves a greater position in Florence. He has a complicated relationship with Lorenzo, whom he sees both as a rival and as the person standing between the Pazzi family and greater power. His relationship with Giuliano is less hostile at first, but the growing conflict between their families eventually puts them on opposite sides.

Lorenzo is the central character of the series. Intelligent, ambitious, and politically clever, he wants to protect Florence and strengthen the Medici family’s power. He’s deeply loyal to his family, especially Giuliano, but his determination to win politically can sometimes make him ruthless.

Giuliano is Lorenzo’s younger brother. He’s charismatic, passionate, artistic, and much more impulsive than Lorenzo. He doesn’t have the same hunger for political power, preferring love, pleasure, and freedom—but his loyalty to his family eventually puts him directly in danger.

Jacopo is the head of the Pazzi family, Francesco’s uncle and one of the main forces behind their opposition to the Medici. He’s older, experienced, politically ambitious, and much more calculating than Francesco. He strongly believes the Pazzi should challenge Medici dominance.

Guglielmo is a Pazzi family member who is much more peaceful and less politically aggressive than Francesco. He is married to Bianca de’ Medici, Lorenzo’s sister, which makes the rivalry between the families especially complicated. His loyalty is divided between his Pazzi family and his Medici wife.
