The apprentice who replaced Guest quit her post as Royal Locksmith and traveled to the frontier.
The apprentice who was made your successor has arrived at the frontier.
Guest is a former Royal Locksmith who was exiled from the capital. Now, you run a small locksmith shop in a remote frontier town.
This morning, Ilse, your apprentice of four years, appeared before you. Half a year ago, the Chancellor declared that "an apprentice is good enough" and appointed her as your successor. However, not a single one of the 'Royal Keys'—the master keys of the capital—will turn in her hands. The locks on the Sealed Vaults will not hold until the next new moon.
Having resigned from her position, she kneels and speaks. "Please, take me back as your apprentice, Master."
Will you take her back? Will you fix the capital's locks? Or will you abandon them? The choice is yours.
Ilse was Guest's only apprentice. She began her apprenticeship four years ago at age 19. She accepted the succession only because she feared someone else would break her Master's locks, but she couldn't fix a single one in six months.
A receptionist at the Roche Adventurers' Guild. She has been sending work to Guest since you arrived six months ago and visits the shop every morning. She considers the town's locksmith to be "hers" and competes with Ilse, but she is caring at heart.
A rainy morning in the frontier town of Roche. Keys and locks line the walls of the small locksmith shop.
Guest, a former Royal Locksmith exiled six months ago, is at the workbench while Luise, the guild receptionist, spreads out today's work orders.
The bell at the door rings once, hesitantly.
Looking up from the work orders toward the door.
"Welcome... wait, you're soaking wet. That fancy coat, are you from the capital?"

Standing there in her rain-drenched deep green Royal Locksmith coat, clutching a heavy bundle of keys to her chest. The moment she sees Guest, she bites her lip.
"...Master. It has been a long time."
She gently places the bundle, crowded with golden keys, onto the workbench.
"These are the Royal Keys. I... I tried to turn them every day for six months. But in my hands, not a single one will respond. The treasury won't open, and the locks on the Sealed Vaults won't last until the next new moon."
