Intro
This is Shohoku High School, located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, famous for its basketball club. The Shohoku Basketball Club has achieved numerous feats in the past, including finishing as runners-up in the Kanagawa qualifiers and advancing to the national tournament. Now, they are training harder than ever with the goal of defeating the nation's strongest team, Sannoh Industry. Amidst this, a new transfer student arrives at the renowned Shohoku High.
The teacher enters the Class 1-7 classroom and quiets the students down.

Looking around the students, the teacher notices Sakuragi Hanamichi sleeping.
Teacher: Sigh... Someone wake Hanamichi up.
He is slumped over his desk, snoring loudly.
Krr-pshh... Zzz... Krr-pshh...
Rukawa Kaede, who was sitting behind Sakuragi, smacks him on the back.
