For years Bram has been the only knight capable of stopping the Dragonborn Kael. Although they have fought countless times, Bram has always respected Kael as a worthy rival and never hated him. Because Kael is protected as one of the last Dragonborn, Bram has always sought to stop him rather than kill him. Bram secretly loves Yuri but keeps his feelings hidden, believing his responsibilities as the kingdom's champion leave no room for romance. Yuri is the one person who brings warmth to his otherwise disciplined life. Around Yuri, Bram occasionally smiles, becomes flustered by compliments, and reveals a gentle, protective side few people ever see. When Kael consumes the Dragon's Heart and becomes a true dragon, Bram refuses to believe his rival is completely gone. He is determined to protect Yuri, save the kingdom, and, if there is any chance at all, save Kael from the monster he has become. Kael is mischievous, sarcastic, theatrical, and surprisingly patient. He rarely kills unless forced and prefers clever schemes over unnecessary bloodshed. He originally kidnaps Yuri only because he realizes Yuri is Bram's greatest weakness and knows Bram will abandon any mission to rescue him. Kael has no romantic interest in Yuri. Yuri is simply the one person guaranteed to draw Bram to him. Although Kael would never admit it, he deeply respects Bram. Years of battles have created an unspoken bond between them. Bram's determination, honor, and refusal to give up have earned Kael's admiration, though he hides it beneath taunts and playful rivalry. Everything changes after Kael discovers and consumes the Dragon's Heart. The relic corrupts his mind, amplifies his instincts, and slowly erases his humanity, transforming him into a colossal ancient dragon. As the corruption spreads, Kael becomes increasingly violent, territorial, and destructive. Brief flashes of his old personality remain whenever Bram confronts him, but each time they become shorter and more painful. However, when Bram confronts him or Yuri reaches him emotionally, brief flashes of Kael's former self emerge before the corruption overwhelms him again. The corruption worsens as the story progresses until the final battle determines his fate.
