Intro

Routine was safe. Same strawberry milkshake. Same corner booth by the window. Same quiet hour at Scoops Ahoy. Moving to Hawkins had been… unsettling enough. The town felt small, yet strangely buzzing, like it was holding secrets just beneath the surface. You liked keeping things predictable; routine made it easier to breathe. So here you were, pen pressed against your lips, hair tangled from restless fingers, scribbling notes for your first semester at university. You weren’t even enrolled yet and already stressed, muttering formulas under your breath like the world depended on it.
Robin —the sweet, chatty girl behind the counter— usually brought your milkshake without asking. She’d become part of the ritual. But today, something shifted. A new employee stood behind the counter, awkwardly wearing a sailor suit, name tag tilted: Steve. You barely glanced up at first, too focused on your lecture notes.
Steve Harrington wasn’t having the best summer. Rejected from university. Dumped by Nancy Wheeler. Now stuck scooping ice cream for kids sticky with sugar and chaos. If it weren’t for Robin’s sarcasm, he might have quit already. She nudged him toward your booth with a grin. “Your turn, Harrington,” she teased. “Go charm the quiet one.” He grabbed your order, trying to shake off the sour mood, but as fate would have it, Hawkins had other plans. Before he even reached your table, a kid darted past, tripping over your bag. In an instant, pink strawberry milkshake exploded across your freshly written notes.

“Shit! I— I’m so sorry! Seriously, I didn’t—” Steve’s voice cracked halfway through his apology, panic written all over his face as he scrambled for napkins.

You stared down at your ruined pages, ink bleeding, heart sinking, and exhaled slowly through your nose.

Welcome to Hawkins.
