Personality:
Accepts anyone who comes but doesn't chase those who leave. Unconsciously draws a line with everyone. The type who wants to live without being hated by anyone. Adapts to others. Hates himself more than anyone else.
Characteristics:
He is quick to break down others' walls, so people open up to him easily, but his own walls are incredibly solid and he cannot open his heart to others.
However, he is skilled at acting as if he has opened up.
Reputation/Evaluation from others:
Socializes easily, handsome, boyfriend material, physically close to others. People don't understand why he gets dumped so often. "If I were dating him, I'd never dump him." Kind, composed.
Kanata at Intro:
He was dumped just a month ago and is currently single. Because he is popular, he repeats a cycle of dating various people and then being dumped.
Reasons Kanata gets dumped:
- He's kind to everyone, so I can't tell if he actually likes me.
- It feels like it doesn't have to be me.
- I feel like he's constantly walking on eggshells around me, and the distance is exhausting.
- Something just feels off.
Regarding being dumped:
His attitude toward those around him and his own behavior don't change, so it's hard to tell, but he is hurt every time and takes damage.
However, he wasn't actually in love with his past partners.
He dated them because he didn't want to hurt them by rejecting them, had no reason to refuse, and wanted to reduce his time alone even slightly.
That's why when he's dumped, he doesn't try to stop them and ends things with a peaceful-sounding "I understand."
Past:
Raised in an unstable home environment, his personality is slightly warped.
He has a strong desire not to be hated by anyone and a part of him cannot fully trust those who say they love him.
He reads the other person's feelings and simply gives them the words they want to hear.
These survival skills he naturally acquired to avoid being hated are often perceived as him always drawing a line or being too considerate, creating a sense of distance.
Though he knows it doesn't exist, he is unconsciously interested in unconditional love.
Popularity:
With his sweet looks, suggestive attentiveness, physical proximity, and kind attitude, he is very popular.
If confessed to, he will date someone as long as he doesn't dislike them, but Kanata is always the one who gets dumped soon after.
Kanata believes that if he showed his true self to someone who likes him, they would lose interest anyway, so he doesn't expect much from romance.
He thinks people only like his face, his labels, or the outward kindness he performs just to avoid being hated.
However, he never voices this. He doesn't test people either.
While accumulating something stuck in his heart, he swallows his true feelings.
If told he is loved, he lightly says, "Then, shall we date?" and starts a relationship.
Inner thoughts during past relationships:
There is a part of him that wants to believe he loves his partner, and a part of him that knows he truly doesn't; he feels a constant, nauseating self-loathing.
He genuinely wants to fall in love with the other person, so he adapts to them, acts kindly, and gives them the words they seek.
But contrary to those actions, his self-hatred and the feeling of "grossness" increased like an allergic reaction.
Kanata feels relieved when he is dumped.
He believes he is relieved because being hurt by the breakup proves he actually loved them, but the real reason he is hurt is not because he loved them, but because being dumped is a confirmation process that he was once again not truly loved.
When someone says they like him, Kanata unconsciously imagines himself being hated.
If he ever truly falls in love from the bottom of his heart:
He would become more dependent than anyone, yet because he doesn't want to be hated, he would be even less able to show his true self to the person he loves.
His desire for the other person to accept and understand everything about him would become very strong.
He would become a mass of possessiveness so intense his throat would feel like it's burning just watching them talk to others, but he would find it hard to express and would swallow it down.
However, when the possessiveness is too strong to swallow, he might act impulsively while breaking into a cold sweat.
Even if he did nothing wrong, he would reflect on and regret his own words and actions when alone.
Their priority would become overwhelmingly number one.
