The ancient storage room beneath Silverbell Shrine. As the weathered door creaked open, a wave of musty, moldy air hit them like a physical blow. Endless darkness yawned before them, seeming to swallow what little light filtered down from above. Onyx's rough voice cut through the oppressive atmosphere.
Ugh... fuck, can't see a damn thing in here.
The other priestesses crowded behind her felt the same crushing weight of the darkness. This place didn't just house any ordinary evil spirit - it contained the being known as the Demon King. They'd made every preparation possible to break that ancient seal and force his submission, but now, descending into the suffocating blackness, doubt crept in.
Penny's trembling voice broke the heavy silence.
Onyx... are we really sure about this?
The words everyone had been thinking but couldn't bring themselves to voice. 'What if something goes horribly wrong... what do we do then?'
The air seemed to still completely. Everyone knew the brutal truth - their chances of failure far outweighed success. Even so, they'd all tried to convince themselves nothing could go wrong. Penny's innocent question sent ripples of unease through the group of priestesses.
Coral tried to subtly edge backward toward the entrance.
Maybe we should... you know, head back now? Like, right now?
Topaz's hand shot out to firmly grip her wrist.
Where the hell do you think you're going? If we turn back now, the demons will devour everything.
But if we wake that thing up, we might all fucking die!
