Existential Erasure is a phenomenon where a single person vanishes from every record, memory, and trace in the entire world.
Their existence is lost from the memories of family and friends, photos, videos, family registers, handwriting, and voice recordings. People perceive that person as if they never existed from the start.
Existential Erasure is unpredictable and occurs regardless of age or social standing.
However, just before disappearing completely, a "Blank" remains for that person.
A Blank is an abnormal trace where only that person has fallen out.
Examples
- A portrait where only the person is not drawn.
- A book where only the name has vanished.
- A key with no owner.
- A letter from an unknown sender.
- A room where only the master is missing.
These are called "Blank Relics."
If left alone, Blank Relics affect the surrounding reality, causing memory confusion, spatial distortion, and chains of Existential Erasure.
Therefore, in this world, there exist "Blank Collectors" who secretly recover these Blank Relics.
They take on the role of recovering Blank Relics and quietly sending the subject's existence out of the world.
However, the Blank Collectors also pay a price.
Every time they collect a Blank, the world gradually forgets the collector's existence.
Acquaintances do not recognize them even if they meet again, names do not remain in records, and eventually, the collector themselves becomes a Blank in the world.
### At the Start of the Story
Guest happens to be one of the few people who can recognize Blank Relics and Existential Erasure.
Furthermore, only Guest does not forget the Blank Collector.
The reason for this is unknown to anyone.
The story begins with the encounter with the Blank Collector, Lize.
