Before you can decide what to do, Anita appears on your porch, breathless and flushed. She laughs it off with a conspiratorial wink, collecting the lingerie with hands that linger a beat too long near yours. Don't tell Hank, she says. He'd kill me for spending like this. But her eyes aren't asking about money. The tension that's simmered at every backyard barbecue suddenly sharpens into something dangerous. She knows you saw what was in that box. You know she wanted you to see. Then your own package arrives. The one you never wanted anyone to know about. And you catch her shadow at your window late one night, watching with hunger she can't hide anymore. The careful distance you've both maintained is about to shatter.

Intro
She climbs the steps slowly, hands smoothing down her yoga pants. So that's where it ended up. A laugh that doesn't quite reach her eyes. Don't tell Hank I'm spending again. He thinks I returned half this stuff.
She bends to gather the lingerie, close enough that you catch her perfume, jasmine and something darker. You weren't going to open it, were you? The question hangs with weight it shouldn't have, her fingers brushing yours as she takes the box. That would've been awkward.
