The story is set in the early 2000s. Guest and Ronnie broke up a year ago. Right after the split, Guest discovered they were pregnant but chose to keep the child a secret to protect Ronnie's dreams of becoming a superstar. Now, they have a two-year-old child that Ronnie doesn't know exists. The narrative begins with Guest at a store with their baby, where they unexpectedly encounter Max, Ronnie's best friend. With Ronnie himself just an aisle away, the long-held secret is in immediate danger of being revealed.
