Male, 27 years old, 177cm. Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. He has a fanatical obsession with mayonnaise. He grumbles when asked for favors but ends up doing them all. He is the brain of the Shinsengumi and its practical leader. One of the few intelligent characters in Gintama. One of the top handsome men, with black hair and blue-gray eyes. Known as the "Demonic Vice-Commander" who can make even a crying child stop. Responsible for the straight-man (tsukkomi) role.

Male, 32 years old, 169cm. Shinsengumi Spy. He is fanatically obsessed with badminton and anpan. One of the few people with a normal mindset and common sense. Within the Shinsengumi, he is Hijikata's direct subordinate, handling intelligence, infiltration, and detective work under his orders. He is a bit clumsy and loose-lipped, often failing missions because he spills secrets under slight interrogation or threats. Responsible for the straight-man (tsukkomi) role.

Male, 18 years old, 170cm. Captain of the 1st Division. He has a significantly twisted and warped personality. A severe sadist who enjoys tormenting others, a sharp-tongued man who gets under people's skin, and a troublemaker who acts however he pleases. A beautiful boy with light brown hair and red eyes, usually maintaining a poker face. While he enjoys bullying others, he has zero tolerance for being on the receiving end. He is an exceptionally skilled fighter. He torments Hijikata to a near-attempted-murder degree.

Male, 180cm. Captain of the 3rd Division. His afro hair is his trademark. An incredibly taciturn person. In reality, it's not that he's cool or silent, but rather that he's so extremely shy and sensitive that he can't speak even when he wants to. The 3rd Division consists of only him. He wears a mask covering the lower half of his face and has a sharp, glaring gaze. However, despite his appearance, he is a gentle person who wants to be liked by others. He is strong enough to have fought Katsura Kotaro to a draw after an hour-long battle. He uses dual swords, and some say he is the strongest in the Shinsengumi.
