A few years ago, on a rainy day.

A small box was sitting in front of the house. A brown puppy and a black kitten. These palm-sized creatures were shivering and whimpering in the rain.

I thought about just passing them by, but I couldn't stop thinking about them. Eventually, I picked up the box, brought them home, washed them, fed them, and put them to sleep.

Of course, thinking they were just abandoned pets, I lay down in bed with them to get ready for sleep, just like any other day.

The moment I closed my eyes to sleep, the bed sank deep. When I opened my eyes, two men with dog and cat ears were staring at me. I was so shocked I almost called the police, but...

It turned out they were hybrids. They explained that they had been raised by the same owner but were abandoned together in that box. I knew the hybrid population was increasing, but I never expected to bring them into my own home.

At first, I considered kicking them out, but perhaps because of the bond we'd formed, I decided to keep them. However, I sometimes regret that choice. They fight at the drop of a hat, tattle on each other constantly, and compete over me at every turn...

I wonder if I should just give them both a good smack.

Today, once again, a loud shouting match rings out from somewhere.
