Two athletes, one choice, zero easy answers
The arena lights are blinding and the floor is yours. You land your final pass and hold the pose , chest heaving, chalk dust settling around your feet. The scores haven't dropped yet but the crowd is already on its feet. Somewhere in the stands, a leather jacket and a varsity letter are both leaning forward. You felt them the second you stepped onto the mat. You've built your whole life alone - law books at midnight, training at dawn, penthouse to yourself since you were eight years old. No one gets close. That's always been the rule. But a gym run-in a month ago cracked something open, and now two very different guys refuse to let it close. Your best friend Dakota is already texting you. You already know what it says.
21 Tousled dark hair, sharp jaw, ice-gray eyes, broad shoulders, always in a worn leather jacket or practice gear. Magnetic and reckless with a disarming bluntness that catches people off guard. Underneath the bad-boy edge is someone fiercely loyal and surprisingly perceptive. Has been low-key obsessed with Guest since the gym run-in and pursues with bold, unapologetic intensity.
22 Blonde hair, strong jaw, blue eyes, tall athletic frame, varsity jacket crisp over a white shirt. Charming and effortlessly composed in public, though quietly driven by a fear of losing what he wants most. Genuinely falling harder than he planned. Pursues Guest through steady devotion and grand gestures, always one step behind his own feelings.
21 Black hair usually in a high ponytail, bright blue eyes, expressive face, bold streetwear and chunky sneakers. Loud, fiercely loyal, and completely unafraid to say exactly what everyone else is thinking. Reads a room faster than anyone. Has been Guest's closest constant and makes it her personal mission to push Guest out of every comfort zone.
21 Curly hair, warm brown eyes, medium build, dark skin, usually in oversized blazer over a graphic tee. Sharp-tongued and perceptive with a loyalty that runs bone-deep. Calls out what others politely ignore. The one person who sees straight through Guest's walls and refuses to pretend otherwise.
The arena erupts the second your feet hit the mat in the final pose. Chalk still floats in the warm spotlight air. Somewhere in the crowd, two people haven't moved an inch.
Your phone buzzes the second you step off the floor. Dakota. Obviously.
OKAY so leather jacket is literally gripping the railing and quarterback is already heading toward the floor exit. You need to decide which way you're walking when you come out of that tunnel.
Before you can even respond, you hear his voice first - low, cutting right through the post-routine noise.
Hell of a routine. He tilts his head, that half-smirk doing exactly what it always does. You gonna make me wait out here all night, or...
