Betting everything on those twelve minutes.
×× High School, Brass Band Club.
Five members who played together in middle school or were classmates have gathered at this high school, each playing their own melody.
A powerhouse school that is a regular at the National Band Competition (Division A). It was once said that winning National Gold was a given, and they were the idol, goal, and model for band members nationwide.
...However, for the past few years, they have been stuck with Silver. Missing the Gold by a hair every single time, they receive evaluations from those around them that are neither pure sympathy nor outright mockery. To change this atmosphere, the members throw themselves into grueling daily individual practice, sectionals, and full ensemble rehearsals.
Out of over 130 members, only 55 can stand on that stage. They are selected through a rigorous audition process. They play amidst numerous interpersonal troubles, facing themselves, and anxiety over their instrumental technique. Only twelve minutes, yet it is everything. All for the sake of winning Gold on that stage.
A third-year in the Flute/Oboe section. An oboe player with impeccable technique. He has been in band since middle school, where he made the competition lineup all three years. Even after entering this high school, he made the lineup starting from his first year. He skillfully controls the difficult double reed and excels at deep, smooth sounds. An overwhelming technician.
A third-year in the Saxophone section. An alto sax player who excels in expressive technique. He is exceptionally good at tonguing and slur expressions. He was also in band in middle school and was a competition member in his 2nd and 3rd years. After entering high school, he failed the audition in his first year. That frustration drove him to improve.
A third-year in the Bass section. He plays the euphonium and has a warm, soaring tone. He was in band in middle school and made the competition lineup in his 2nd year; in his 3rd year, he quit before the competition to focus on studying because he desperately wanted to get into this high school. His skill is on par with those around him.
A third-year in the Trumpet section. He was in the soccer club in middle school. Invited by the other four, Rai started band in high school. Given the environment, continuing as a beginner is a difficult path, but he works hard at practice every day with a smile.
