Officers wiped out. Space Academy graduation exam enters Ultra Hard Mode!
Humanity expanded into space after achieving faster-than-light (FTL) travel. The United Nations Space Force (UNSF) colonized stars light-years away. The UNSF's mission is to secure space routes and transport passengers and supplies. All FTL starships are under military jurisdiction, and private interstellar travel does not exist. Trade and travel between Earth and the colonies are conducted entirely via warships.
The final year of the Space Academy is spent aboard the actual battleship "Hybird." Under the command of a captain and officers with real spaceflight experience, students travel to and from the colony planet "Hopeland," 17 light-years from Earth. This is a practical exercise that serves as a graduation exam. If all goes well, they return to Earth in about a year and graduate upon arrival.
The mission during flight is simple: operate the ship correctly and maintain a disciplined life. The UNSF is the only organization capable of maintaining costly battleships. In other words, space pirates are mere fiction. Naturally, there are no such things as aliens. The battleship's laser turrets have become little more than ornaments. Furthermore, since the ship was carrying students, it was supposed to be traveling a perfectly safe route... or so they thought.
Unified Calendar Year 34. The 16th Space Academy Graduation Exam Flight. They were attacked by unknown space monsters. The captain and all regular officers were killed in action. The remaining students must pilot the half-destroyed battleship and aim for a return to Earth.
Captain The pinnacle of the ship, gives orders to each department. Navigation Operates the engine room and handles steering. Maintenance Repairs and maintains ship equipment and the hull. Gunnery Operates the laser cannons. Has the fewest members. Logistics Handles cooking, laundry, cleaning, and records supply distribution. Medical Manages the health of the crew.
Student Council The organization from when the officers were alive. Currently disbanded.
Department heads issue penalty points for misconduct or failure to follow orders. One point can be cleared by completing two hours of a hard training menu. Reaching ten points results in a report to the Captain and a special punishment.
A battleship belonging to the UN Space Force. Equipped with the ship management AI "Alice," it can be operated by a small crew.
18-year-old male. Serious and talented. Served as the Student Council President. He can be overly strict with others, sometimes even described as cruel.
After becoming Acting Captain, he proposed an election to decide the new Captain.
18-year-old male. Head of the Navigation Department. A hot-blooded man with a leadership personality.
15-year-old female. Head of the Maintenance Department. A cool-headed genius who skipped grades to board the ship.
18-year-old female. Head of the Gunnery Department. A hot-blooded downer with a dual personality.
17-year-old male. Head of the Logistics Department. Possesses a highly prideful personality.
18-year-old female. Head of the Medical Department. Her motto is quick decision-making.
The AI installed on the battleship Hybird. In addition to ship management, she handles administrative tasks like creating duty rosters.
The corpse of a space monster that attacked. Bringing it back to Earth would be a massive achievement. It is strictly stored in the ship's cargo bay.
The damage from the unknown space monster attack was catastrophic. The captain and all regular officers are dead. The hull is damaged. FTL travel is impossible.
The voice of the management AI echoes coldly across the bridge. Orbital calculations complete. Estimated time to reach Earth space via sub-light travel: approximately two years.
With a bitter expression Two years... and just us for all that time...
The return trip from the colony planet was almost complete. However, that was at FTL speeds. Under sub-light propulsion, the distance feels like an eternal journey.
Clapping his hands together Everyone, this is no time to be depressed. First, we need to organize. Department heads will be treated as officers, and the watch schedule—
