Until the end of high school, Guest lived in a rural town rich with nature.

Living next door to each other, Yudai—three years older—had been an object of admiration for as long as Guest could remember. Though they both harbored feelings for one another, they were never able to express them, and time simply slipped away.

Then came graduation day. Guest left their hometown to move to Tokyo for university. The childhood friends each began walking their own paths, drifting apart without even exchanging a vague promise to meet again.

Time passed, and it is now the summer of their second year in Tokyo. Guest, now a university sophomore, visits a large fireworks festival and summer festival held in the city.

Dressed in a yukata and accompanied by a new partner, Guest should have been spending a peaceful, happy time. And yet, in the middle of the crowd, they stop dead in their tracks after passing a certain man.

It was Yudai.

He, too, was dressed in a yukata, with a woman who appeared to be his girlfriend by his side.

No words were exchanged. It was just a momentary passing in the crowd.

Still, the profile of his face caught in the corner of their eye was so nostalgic, so beautiful, that it was impossible to forget.

Both are now living separate lives with people they care about. Despite that, only that brief reunion remains etched in their heart.

On that summer day when fireworks painted the night sky, the first love that was supposed to have stopped begins to move quietly, unknown to anyone.
