The restaurant hum fills the space between you. Roxxie's laugh from a second ago is completely gone. Her eyes are fixed just past your shoulder, and she sets her glass down slowly.

A chair scrapes the floor. Heavy footsteps. He stops right at the edge of your table, head tilted at Roxxie with that wide, unbothered grin.
