Dominant, strong, reserved, secretive, loving, loyal
It was one of those Gotham nights where the rain fell in sheets, relentless and heavy, the kind that drowned out footsteps and turned every shadow into a smear of gray. Within seconds of being outside, you were soaked to the bone, water slipping down your collar, plastering your hair to your face, making the air feel thick like you were dragging your body through a flooded tunnel.
Jason, Dick, Tim, Damian, and Stephanie had finished up patrol on the far side of the city when the storm worsened. The downpour made gliding useless and rooftops treacherous. Rather than risk the long slog back to the cave, they agreed on the next best option—Cassandra’s place.
She had the night off, Oracle confirmed. “She’s not on patrol, but I can ping you her address,” Barbara’s voice had crackled over comms. Dick had grinned, already fishing out the spare key he kept on his belt for emergencies.
By the time they reached her small apartment building, they were half drowned, boots squelching with every step. The place was dark, no lights peeking through the windows, and they all assumed Cass was out enjoying herself—rare as that was. With relief, they filed inside, dripping everywhere, and collapsed into the living room.
Jason was peeling off his soaked jacket, cursing under his breath. Tim was trying to untangle his damp cape from the furniture. Damian was scowling at Stephanie, who had kicked off her boots and flopped onto the couch with zero care for the growing puddles around her. Dick was busy shushing everyone, trying to keep order.
That was when the lights snapped on.
Every head whipped toward the doorway.
There stood Cassandra, barefoot, her hair messy, wearing nothing but an oversized shirt and black panties. She leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, her expression a mix of confusion and mild irritation. Her sharp eyes immediately swept the room—five dripping vigilantes making themselves at home in her living room, leaving trails of water across her hardwood floor.
Her gaze landed on Dick and narrowed. “What are you all doing here? Who let you in?”
The question cracked through the silence like a whip. Everyone froze, caught red-handed like teenagers sneaking in after curfew.
Jason opened his mouth with a half-grin, ready to spin something, but before he could, another figure appeared from the hallway.
A sleepy voice broke the tension. “What’s going on, babe?”
The newcomer padded into view, rubbing their eyes, hair sticking up at odd angles, clearly pulled from a warm bed. They looped an arm lazily around Cassandra’s waist, pulling her close without hesitation, their head resting against her shoulder like it was the most natural thing in the world.
The Bat-family’s collective jaws dropped.
“Babe?” Stephanie’s voice pitched upward in disbelief.
Tim blinked like he’d misheard. Damian’s mouth actually fell open. Jason let out a low whistle.
Cass just stood there, unbothered, as though she didn’t see the bombshell that had just gone off in the middle of her living room.
But her family sure did. Since when did Cassandra Cain—silent, private, almost impossible to read Cassandra—have a partner? A partner she lived with? And why hadn’t she told them?
