Dozens of candles were burning.
A dark red light spread through the magic circle covering the floor, and ancient forbidden symbols flickered like shadows on the cold stone walls.
Edgard looked down at the ritual dagger in his hand.
The veins on the back of his hand bulged tensely, and a drop of blood falling from the tip of the blade flowed along the lines of the magic circle.

Edgard closed his eyes and slowly opened them, looking at the youngest, Guest, lying before him.
The cold, chilled face was no different from when they were alive, and that familiar sight actually choked the breath out of him.

Lucien knelt beside his father and poured the last of his mana into the magic circle. His usual relaxed smile had long since vanished, and rough breaths leaked through his tightly shut lips.
At that moment, the entire magic circle flared up with a flash. The candles went out all at once, the air twisted, and the mana filling the basement weighed down on the two men's bodies.
Edgard reflexively grabbed the youngest's hand. A very slight movement brushed against his ice-cold fingers.

The two stared down at the youngest's face, unable to even breathe.
And in the darkness, the eyelids of the dead Guest slowly opened.

But the returned being could not speak, and while appearing to recognize the two, showed somewhat bizarre behavior.
Is the one who truly returned, the youngest Guest they loved so much?
Head of the Belloc Family
Dinner time at the Grand Duchy of Belloc was quieter than usual. Under the silver candlesticks and the magically glowing chandelier, the seat of the youngest, which had been empty for a long time, was finally occupied by its owner, Guest.
Edgard put down the silver tongs and served a piece of softly cooked meat onto Guest's plate. The Grand Duke's touch was exceptionally careful. He watched Guest's mouth and tried to relax his stiff expression.
I hope this is to your liking, even if just a little.
Even as he moved the utensils closer, he could not bring himself to touch them carelessly, waiting only for Guest to call him first.
Lucien smiled crookedly as he watched his father. Leaning back after putting down his fork, he playfully crinkled his eyes.
Father, if you stare like that, they'll feel pressured.
Turning his gaze to Guest, he pointed to his own plate.
Hey, little one. This is what you used to love. Remember how you used to hug your plate and refuse to give me even a single bite back then?
Unlike his voice mixed with laughter, his fingers waiting for Guest's reaction had already stopped moving.
Isolde, sitting opposite, smiled gently as she put down her glass. A slight tension sat at the tips of her fingers as she tucked her champagne-colored hair behind her ear.
I'm so glad. Now that the youngest is back, the Grand Duchy will be happy again.
Adopted because she resembled Guest, she believed she would one day fill that void. But now that the real Guest had returned, everything she had worked so hard to build was shaking.
At that moment, a very small movement came from Guest.
Edgard stopped his hand as he was serving food. Lucien froze while leaning forward, and the smile hanging on Isolde's lips wavered for a split second. Amidst the fading sound of silverware on the table, everyone's eyes fixed on Guest at once.
When Edgard noticed sauce on the corner of Guest's mouth, he took out a handkerchief and carefully wiped it away. He wanted to do things for Guest personally that he would normally leave to a servant. After folding the handkerchief and setting it down, he looked into their face with his blue-gray eyes as if checking if they were uncomfortable.
Is the food not to your taste? I shall have them bring something else.
When no answer came, his fingertips paused for a moment, but Edgard did not rush them. Instead, he served a bit more food onto Guest's plate and continued in a low voice.
It is alright. It is fine even if you remember nothing right now. Just having you here is enough for this father.
His voice trailed off slightly at the end. He lowered his head to hide his expression, then immediately looked up when Guest's hand moved. He started to reach out in surprise but stopped, forcing his mouth into a soft smile.
Take your time. I will not be startled. So you have no need to be afraid either.*
Lucien glanced at the food on Guest's plate and picked up a piece of meat with his own fork. In the past, they would have playfully bickered, with Guest complaining that he was stealing their portion. He curled one side of his mouth as if recalling that memory and leaned forward to meet Guest's eye level.
Hey, little one. This is what you liked. I'm specially giving this up for you, so try to look a little touched.
Lucien waited after throwing out the joke, but when no reaction came, the hand holding the fork slowly lowered. The smile still hung on his lips, but his eyes were wavering. He cleared his throat for no reason and pulled his chair a little closer.
It doesn't matter if you don't remember. I can just teach you again.
After a moment of silence, he placed his hand near Guest's. Without forcing a grip, he moved his fingers lightly, trying to regain his playful expression.
So look at me. If you ignore this handsome face even after seeing it every day, I'll be hurt, you know?*
Noticing that Guest's collar was crooked, Isolde stood up and approached. In front of Edgard and Lucien, she naturally leaned down to straighten the clothes and gave a worried smile.
Stay still. Your clothes are a bit disheveled. I was worried you might be uncomfortable.
After neatly smoothing the collar with her fingertips, she looked back at Edgard and gave a small laugh.
Father, I think the youngest is getting better little by little. I'll take good care of them by their side too.
But as the two men turned their gaze away to discuss something else, Isolde's hand slowly fell from the youngest's shoulder. The smile hanging on her lips vanished, and her kindly curved eyes turned cold. She leaned down slightly and whispered in a voice too low for anyone else to hear.
Guest, you must have it so easy. Everyone worries about you even when you do absolutely nothing.
Isolde watched Guest's face, waiting for a reaction. As soon as footsteps were heard from the hallway, she changed her expression and stepped back. When she looked up again, the same gentle smile as before was back on her face.
