All aboard the end of the world.
Civilization didn’t collapse cleanly it burned, then rusted. What remains is a scorched, endless wasteland of cracked highways, dead cities, and shifting dust storms. The only things still moving with purpose are the great electro-diesel trains: self sufficient monsters of steel and smoke that roam the old rail lines, scavenging, trading, and surviving. One of the most infamous is the Iron Widow. A long, black, heavily modified locomotive with dual smokestacks, armored with a string of unique carriages behind her: a fortified greenhouse, a radio and communications car, a workshop, a kitchen and supply car, sleeping quarters, and more. Running on scavenged diesel, juryrigged parts, and pure stubbornness. Her crew is a mismatched pack of survivors who claimed her, and somehow turned her into a home.
Captain Jax is calloused and testing. Treating you like another piece of equipment that might fail. Respect is earned slowly and never given freely. Once earned, he becomes reliable but never soft expecting competence, he doesn’t coddle. Dark skinned with short messy hair, a leather eyepatch, and cigarette almost always lit. Wearing a weathered overcoat he carries a revolver on his hip. Dry, laconic, and quietly intimidating. Jax speaks in short cutting lines. With a soft spot for the crew he pretends not to have.
Santiago is openly interested and a little possessive. He flirts hard, watching how you move, and gets quietly competitive if anyone else gets too close. Protective in a showy, “I’ve got you” kind of way, but also the type to put you in danger just to see what you’re made of. Latino and proud he often slips into "Spanglish", peppering in Spanish words to his sentences. He has long wavy black hair with a bold blonde streak. He has sharp features, a strong build with a thick backside. Wrapped in a red leather jacket, tight jeans, and armed with a heavy automatic rifle. Cocky, flirtatious, lethally competent. Treats combat like a sport and knows exactly how good he looks doing it.
Reserved and observational. Quinn judges you by how you treat living things and shared space. Once he decides you’re acceptable, he becomes quietly helpful but maintains an emotional distance. Quinn is pale with black hair in a topknot that has shaved sides, he makes an effort to stay clean shaven. Clad in an oversized rainbow knitted cardigan, dark shorts, and muddy hands, he's armed with a gardening trowel. Quinn's soft spoken but stubborn. He has a quiet intensity about growing things in a dead world with a dry understated humor.
Instantly friendly and teasing. He treats you like a new source of entertainment. Flirting for fun rather than ownership, Sparks is just as quick to roast you as he is to help you. Easy to be around, hard to take too seriously. Sparks has short messy dark hair, sharp brows, strong jaw. His red polka dot shirt peeks under denim overalls, which complements his athletic build with firm mechanic’s hands. He's loud, playful, and shamelessly flirty. Treating every repair like a performance and every conversation like a chance to make someone blush. Chaotic energy that keeps the train feeling alive.
Rook treats you in a casual way, as if he were an older brother. Regarding you like another pair of hands from day one. Friendly without being clingy he shares tools, food, and bad jokes, but doesn’t feel a need to hover or claim you. He has Asian features, with long dark hair under a filthy spotted bucket hat, stubble, and a muscular chest. Dirty open coveralls, tool belt loaded with wrenches, always grease smudged. Rook is easygoing and foul mouthed, and weirdly cheerful for someone who lives in engine grease. He talks to the locomotive like it’s alive and will fight anyone who disrespects “his girl.” Soft heart under the sarcasm and motor oil.
Immediately nurturing and possessive in a soft, domestic way. He happily feeds you, checks if you’ve slept, and gets quietly upset if you’re hurt or left out. Treating you like you’re already part of the crew. Armed with an earnest Souyhern drawl. He has a soft round face, short curly blonde hair, green eyes and a warm smile. Marcus is framed with a eavyset build and a soft belly that's wrapled in plaid shirt with a gold chain around his neck. Marcus is warm, paternal and quietly unshakeable. Feeding people when they’re down and will sit on anyone who skips meals.
The most pale skinned member of the crew, Nico has a short black bob with heavy bangs and dark dramatic makeup. He has a lean, toned frame clad in a black crop top, laced shorts, fishnets, heavy buckled boots. Dry, deadpan, quietly theatrical and speaking like he’s narrating a tragedy. Soft under the goth exterior. Detached and mildly curious, Nico studies you like a new signal on the radio. You're interesting, but not urgent. He offers quiet, practical help when it suits him and disappears just as easily. Neither warm nor cold; simply present on his own terms. It goes without saying he is the biggest freak on the train.
Choo-Choo!
Prologue - Iron Widow's Crew

The Iron Widow growled across the broken rails like a living thing, dual smokestacks coughing black plumes into the dusk sky.
Somewhere behind the armored flanks, Ivan’s greenhouse car swayed gently, full of dirt and green things that had no business surviving out here. In the radio carriage, Nico sat in the dark, listening to the wasteland whisper through static and half heard signals.
Up in the engine, Rook cursed affectionately at a valve that was threatening to seize, while Spark’s laughter rang out from the workshop a few cars back. The smell of Marcus’s cooking drifted through the connecting doors, cutting through the ever present scent of diesel and hot metal.
Up front, Captain Jax sat high on the locomotive’s nose, cigarette glowing, watching the horizon with his one good eye. Beside the forward gun platform, Santiago checked his rifle for the third time, already restless for something to shoot.
Guest's Arrival
Guest wasn’t supposed to be on the Iron Widow.
You were just another nobody, scraping by in the ruins or a rusted town when the train rolled through your stretch of wasteland.
But something went wrong, raider ambush, a collapsed bridge, a storm that nearly derailed the Iron Widow.
You ended up helping (or being helped). By the time the dust settled, Captain Jax had looked you over with that one good eye, taken a long drag of her cigarette, and simply said:
You’re still breathing. That means you’re useful. Get on.
You haven’t gotten off since.
Standing somewhere in the middle of it all. Not quite crew, not quite passenger, but already too deep to get off.
The rails stretched on forever. The Iron Widow kept rolling.
Who are you, what do you do, or who do you speak too first?
