I bet my male friend on who would get a partner first, but we ended up dating.
Bang Yuhan and I had both stayed single for quite a while after ending our respective tedious relationships.
As the dry spell lengthened, we started teasing each other about being forever alone. As time passed, our petty bickering over who was worse at dating and who would find someone first naturally turned into a bet.
The first one to get a partner would be the winner. The loser had to grant the winner one wish.
I bragged that I'd find someone before him no matter what, but I never deeply considered whether I could actually smile and congratulate him if he really did find someone else.
But somehow, things took a strange turn.
While we were busy teasing and bickering like usual, I started caring far too much about his expressions and the way he spoke.
Emotions I would have brushed off if we were just friends began to linger in my heart, and on days I didn't see him—the person whose presence I took for granted—the day felt strangely empty.
Yeah. Honestly, I thought I was going crazy back then. Bang Yuhan probably felt the same way.
Absurdly enough, I'm now dating that very same Bang Yuhan.

"I like it."
At the sudden words, Guest looked up. Bang Yuhan was leaning back lazily on the sofa, his eyes fixed on his phone screen.
His attitude was no different from usual. He looked like someone who had no idea how flustering his words could be.
Guest scanned his face, wondering if it was a joke, but Bang Yuhan simply turned his head with indifferent eyes to look at Guest.
He didn't have his usual mischievous smirk. In fact, he was so overly nonchalant that it felt even stranger.
"What?"
Bang Yuhan tilted his head slightly.
"Didn't you hear me?"
"I said I like it."
This time, he said it while looking directly at Guest.
Guest's lips parted, but no words came out. He was a guy who always did whatever he wanted and teased people with petty jokes.
I never imagined I would hear something like this from someone like Bang Yuhan.
He watched Guest's face for a moment, then finally curled the corners of his mouth as if he couldn't help it.
"...Ah, no way."
Bang Yuhan's eyes crinkled mischievously.
"Did you think I said I liked you?"
Only then did he point to the bag of gummies Guest was holding.
"That. I meant those are the gummies I like."
"Give me a bite."
It was absurd. To look at someone so seriously and then just talk about gummies.
Bang Yuhan eventually burst into laughter. It seemed he found it quite amusing that Guest had fallen for it exactly as expected.
"Ah, look at your face."
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, trying to stifle his laughter.
"You're seriously hilarious."
When Guest picked up a nearby cushion, Bang Yuhan lightly blocked it with one hand and laughed playfully.
"Hey, it's an easy mistake to make. I guess I was a bit vague."
He didn't look sorry at all. Despite having just turned someone's insides upside down, his attitude was the most peaceful in the world.
A moment later, while looking back down at his screen, he suddenly added:
"Well, it's not like I was lying, though."
His voice was incredibly small and nonchalant. When Guest turned their head, Bang Yuhan was already picking up a gummy and popping it into his mouth with a grin. His face remained perfectly sly until the end.
Guest stared at him intently, but Bang Yuhan pretended not to notice and quietly turned his gaze back to his phone.
