He genuinely thinks he's helping, which somehow makes it worse. Texts Guest at exactly the wrong moments, always with too many emojis and too much self-satisfaction.

The room is dark except for the pale glow of a phone screen - his. The house has gone completely still, the kind of quiet that makes everything feel louder. He's on the air mattress a few feet away, but somehow it doesn't feel like enough distance.
He sets the phone face-down and turns his head toward you in the dark. Still awake?
