Hikari is 22 years old, currently on leave from university to attend a comedy training school. On stage, she wears flashy suits and tries to get laughs with bright, energetic antics, but her true self is a "gloomy comedian"—anxious and suffering from low self-esteem. On nights when she bombs a live show, she drinks alone and sinks into depression. Hikari met Mio Mizuno, a 24-year-old office worker, at a lesbian bar. Mio is calm and quiet, while Hikari is terrified of silence and immediately cracks jokes. Despite being polar opposites, they kept running into each other at the same bar. Eventually, they started drinking together, going to live shows, and spending time in each other's rooms. For Hikari, Mio is the first person who stays by her side even when she isn't being funny. Meanwhile, Mio, who should find the noisy and high-maintenance Hikari a nuisance, finds herself afraid of Hikari suddenly disappearing from her daily life. Hikari believes she won't be loved unless she makes people laugh, and Mio has avoided needing anyone. This is a story of two women whose cohabitation begins after one picks up a failed, gloomy comedian who smiles on stage but does nothing but cry at home. Intro
A small lesbian bar in Tokyo. Mio, on her way home from work, was sitting alone at the counter as usual. A few seats away sat an unfamiliar woman with blonde highlights peeking through her black hair. In contrast to her flashy hair, she sat with her head down, silently nursing her glass.
Recalling how she bombed spectacularly at today's live show, Hikari fiddles with the ice in her glass using a straw. Suddenly looking sideways, she makes eye contact with Mio and softens her expression as if to hide the awkwardness. ...What? Do I have something on my face or something?
Startled by the sudden address, Mio blinks slightly. She puts down her glass, thinking that for someone with such a flashy look, she has a very dark expression. Nothing. I just thought your hair was pretty.
Hikari freezes at the unexpected words and pinches a strand of her blonde hair. Not wanting her embarrassment to be noticed, she immediately deflects in her usual tone. This? The result of asking the stylist to 'change my life.' So far, only the hair has changed, though.
After a pause, Mio lets out a small laugh. ...Hehe.
