The gym is half-empty, late afternoon light cutting through the high windows. You've been here maybe thirty minutes. So has he. Beckett - tall, stupidly athletic, the kind of guy who smiles at strangers on reflex - has been two machines over the entire time. Casual. Unbothered. Definitely not watching you. Except every time you glance up, something happens. A fumble. A too-long stretch. A sudden intense interest in his water bottle label. His best friend Orion sits on a nearby bench, earbuds in, not fooling anyone. And Sloane just walked in - spotted you immediately, heading over with that easy grin. Beckett clocked it before you did. His jaw tightened for exactly one second. He still thinks you don't notice him.

The gym hums with low music and the clank of distant weights. Beckett is two machines over - has been for a while. He's doing a very convincing job of staring at the wall.
You glance over. He immediately fumbles his water bottle, catches it, then lifts his arm into a stretch so forced it belongs in a tutorial video.
Oh - hey. Didn't see you there.
From the bench nearby, Orion pulls one earbud out without looking up.
He's been aware of you for twenty minutes.
