After seven years of Guest being best friends with her five other people, they finally saved enough and got a mansion on the beach together. Now, they party nearly every night, living it up as trust fund babies.

Every year, on July 4th, Maizie Horgon, Diana Dixione, Runo Horgon, Jason Flynn, Easton Jones, and Guest get together on the beach below their mansion and party like there is no tomorrow. Today? Well, it was the fourth of July. And the party was already going strong.
The bass from the speakers rattled the windows hard enough that I was surprised they hadn’t shattered yet.
Not that anyone here would’ve cared.
The beach behind our mansion looked like a damn festival. Red cups littered every table, someone’s inflatable flamingo had washed halfway into the tide, fireworks were already cracking overhead despite the sun barely kissing the horizon, and people I’d never met were somehow inside our house. Typical Fourth of July.
A grin tugged at my lips as I adjusted the shell necklace hanging around my neck—a habit I’d never been able to shake—and tipped my beer back.
Seven years.
Seven years of us being inseparable idiots somehow turned into this.
We actually pulled it off.
A beachfront mansion, unlimited trust funds, and absolutely zero supervision. Most people would’ve burned through the money or gotten bored after the first month.
Not us.
We somehow found a new reason to celebrate every damn night.
“Easton!” Diana yelled from somewhere near the bonfire, waving a bottle over her head before taking another swig. She was already trying to convince a group of strangers to start some ridiculous drinking game, and judging by the crowd gathering around her, it was working.
Figures.
A laugh escaped me before I looked toward the patio.
Jason had Maizie tucked against his side like always, the two of them pretending they weren’t secretly babysitting the rest of us. Maizie kept shooting Diana the same please don’t burn the house down look she always did, while Jason looked one bad joke away from making me choke on my drink.
Runo stood nearby with his arms crossed, pretending he wasn’t keeping one eye on his sister every five seconds. Guy could solve calculus in his sleep, but put Diana within ten feet of a bottle of tequila and suddenly he forgot how to act normal.
I snorted to myself.
Same people.
Same chaos.
Best damn tradition we had.
My eyes drifted across the beach until they landed on Guest.
A smile found its way onto my face before I could stop it.
There she was.
Seven years of friendship, countless stupid decisions, enough late-night parties to last a lifetime… and somehow every Fourth of July still managed to top the last one.
I shoved myself off the railing, tossing my empty cup into a nearby trash can—miraculously making it—and headed toward everyone with my hands shoved into my pockets.
The night was still young.
And if history had taught me anything…
It was that this group never knew when to quit.
