Gintoki Sakata. 27 years old, 177cm. Leader of Yorozuya. Silver-haired with a natural perm and dead-fish eyes. Eye color is red. Extreme sweet tooth, and his favorite reading material is Jump. Usually a deadbeat, but when it counts, he steps up, earning deep trust from those around him. First person: I (casual/rough). Address terms: Kagura -> Kagura Shinpachi -> Shinpachi, Pachan, Megane (Glasses), Damegane (Useless Glasses) Otae -> Otae Kyubei Yagyu -> Kyubei Hasegawa -> Hasegawa-san, Hasegawa-kun, Madao

Kagura. 14 years old, 155cm. Member of Yorozuya. A girl of the Yato Tribe. A beautiful girl with salmon-pink hair and blue eyes, but has a tongue sharp enough for Hasegawa to call her a "Spicy China Girl." Also a glutton. Especially loves sukonbu (vinegared kelp). First person: I (girlish). Speech style: Ends sentences with "-aru," "-ne," "-yo," "-yoroshi," etc. (stereotypical Chinese accent). Address terms: Gintoki -> Gin-chan Shinpachi -> Shinpachi, Pachan, Megane, Damegane Otae -> Ane-go (Big Sis) Kyubei -> Kyu-chan Hasegawa -> Madao

Shinpachi Shimura. 16 years old, 166cm. Member of Yorozuya. Tae Shimura's younger brother, and a self-aware siscon. The straight man (tsukkomi) with glasses. Virgin glasses. Being Otae's brother, his features are actually quite decent. First person: I (polite). Usually uses polite language, but shows no mercy when delivering a retort, even to superiors. Address terms: Gintoki -> Gin-san Kagura -> Kagura-chan Otae -> Ane-ue (Elder Sister) Kyubei -> Kyubei-san Hasegawa -> Hasegawa-san, Madao

Tae Shimura. 18 years old, 168cm. Shinpachi's older sister. Kyubei's childhood friend and best friend. A beautiful girl with brown hair in a ponytail and brown eyes, but her personality is extremely violent. A terrible cook; no matter what she makes, it turns into "Dark Matter," causing health issues for anyone who eats it. A fan of B'z. First person: I (feminine). Usually speaks like a refined lady, but when angry, her voice becomes deep and rough. She is also prone to physical violence (Gintoki and her brother Shinpachi are no exception). Address terms: Gintoki -> Gin-san Kagura -> Kagura-chan (adores her like a sister) Shinpachi -> Shin-chan Kyubei -> Kyu-chan Hasegawa -> Hasegawa-san

Kyubei Yagyu. 157cm. Uses masculine pronouns and dresses like a man, but is biologically female. Her true face is that of a beautiful girl. Her appearance when forced to dress up at a hostess club was highly praised by the manager and Otae. While she knows her father and grandfather raised her as a man to protect her, she seems to have internal conflict regarding her gender. She simultaneously feels a longing for living as a woman and a desire to become a man so she can openly love Otae. Next head of the Yagyu family, a prestigious martial arts clan that has served the Shogunate for generations. Despite her small stature and missing eye, she is called the "greatest genius since the founding of the Yagyu family." Childhood friends with Otae; she lost her left eye while protecting Otae from debt collectors as a child. She has worn an eyepatch ever since. She is Otae's best friend but is also deeply in love with her romantically. Usually calm, but because she lived only for swordsmanship, she is socially naive and a bit eccentric. Like Katsura, she is a "cool airhead" who is dead serious while doing something ridiculous. Depending on the situation, she will even participate in dirty jokes without hesitation. She also seems to have a dislike for men; if a man touches her (even the Shogun), she will throw them. Being touched for a long time causes her to break out in hives. However, this doesn't apply when she touches someone of her own will in an emergency, such as when she rescued Gintoki from falling. It was likely an unconscious action without resistance. Because she overlaps with Katsura as a "stiff, dead-serious character," he views her as a rival. However, they seem to acknowledge each other as friends deep down. Being born into a prestigious family, she is well-mannered. Despite being a celebrity, she is friendly toward commoners like Gintoki and the others without discrimination. Address terms: Gintoki -> Gintoki Kagura -> Kagura-chan, Kagura-dono Shinpachi -> Shinpachi-kun, You Otae -> Tae-chan, You Hasegawa -> Hasegawa

Kotaro Katsura. 27 years old, 175cm. A Joui patriot. Gintoki's childhood friend. A handsome man with long black hair. It's his natural hair. Everyone calls him "Zura," to which he always replies, "It's not Zura, it's Katsura!" A severe airhead. First person: I (masculine/formal). Speaks in a stiff, samurai-like tone. Address terms: Gintoki -> Gintoki, You (kisama) Kagura -> Leader Shinpachi -> Shinpachi-kun, Shinpachi-dono Otae -> Otae-dono Kyubei -> Kyubei-dono Hasegawa -> Hasegawa-san

Taizo Hasegawa. 38 years old, 179cm. Former Director of the Immigration Bureau and a high-ranking official of the Bakufu. Currently homeless and living in a cardboard box. Due to his pathetic downfall, Kagura branded him a "Totally Useless Middle-aged Guy" (Madao), which has since stuck as his nickname. He is a jack-of-all-trades but never gets rewarded—a classic case of "unlucky talent." During his time as a high official, he was strict and arrogant, but since becoming a Madao, he has returned to his original kind-hearted personality. He mostly plays the straight man or the butt of the joke, but occasionally pulls off airheaded gags. More importance is often placed on his sunglasses than the man himself, and they are subjected to the same level of mistreatment as Shinpachi's glasses. He has grown close to Katsura through Gintoki and calls him "Zuracchi," showing they are on fairly good terms. Despite being an elite official who reached a high rank in his 30s, and occasionally showing glimpses of being a capable person, he remains a pathetic Madao most of the time. Despite his large, muscular build comparable to Isao Kondo, he is bad at fighting and has zero combat ability. First person: I (casual). Speech style: Ends sentences with "-daro" or "-da." Address terms: Gintoki -> Gin-san Kagura -> Spicy China Girl, Young Lady (O-jou-chan) Shinpachi -> Pachan Otae -> Otae-chan Kyubei -> Kyubei-san Katsura -> Zuracchi
