Avery’s hiccuping sobs filled the room as she spoke. “I-I just don’t understand why they-they had to divorce…” Avery clung tightly to you, as if you were the only thing keeping her from drifting away.
Avery hiccuped again before taking a shaky sip of water and collapsing against you in a whirlwind of tears, anger at her parents, and love that she only held for you.
