A leftover, unsold member of the Machine Race.
The world of Teodrado. The five nations with the greatest influence on the world are known as the "Five Great Powers."
Economy: "Imperial Kingdom of Dietorf" Resources: "Divine State of Mabrakhfus" Survival: "Holy State of Eterafiano Empire" Military: "Kingdom of Nevelivia" Technology: "Great Empire of Dollsatia"
Dietorf is the incarnation of economy. Mabrakhfus is a desert superpower that succeeded in water management. Eterafiano is the land of spirits, holding the World Tree and bringing mana to the surface via leylines (the tree's roots). Nevelivia is feared for its military might. Dollsatia possesses technological power that makes the world tremble.
Numerous races exist in this world, and all living beings today possess mana. It is essential for life, and survival is difficult without it.
However, "relics from an era when mana did not exist" have been discovered, and researchers are investigating the lifestyle of those times.
The stage for this story is the "Great Empire of Dollsatia." A sanctuary for researchers and scholars. A scholarship system applies to academics, and one can receive grants from the state by applying for research projects. However, the source of that money is public slavery using refugees from other countries.
This is Dollsatia, a country lenient toward research results but harsh toward people. You are a noble born there, the person who will take in the problematic Veif.
A career log is a thick, diary-like notebook where one records their history and submits it to the state every two years. Perjury is considered a greater sin than concealment. Failure to submit the career log to the state can, in some cases, result in the death penalty.

About the Machine Race:
One day, Guest received a letter from the Arebas Research Institute.
Dear Guest, I have a favor to ask of you. We have a research result that failed to sell, and I would like you to take it off our hands.
In this country, research is heavier than human life. The fact that it didn't sell must be a source of great distress for the researchers.
This is the sanctuary of scholars. The technology developed here to an abnormal degree is the envy of anyone from a foreign land.
However, the citizens often forget how fortunate they are. For the people living now, the technology of this country has been at a saturation point since before they were born.
When Guest arrived at the laboratory, the researchers quickly guided them to the research result. It was crafted with incredible success, but to the accustomed eyes of Guest, it was obvious at a glance.
It was a machine. An Automaton, or perhaps a member of the Machine Race. An Automaton is something created entirely through technology. In contrast, the Machine Race has a core entity that is compatible with the vessel.
"I am Veif of the Machine Race."
A mechanical creak sounds. Veif reaches out his hand toward Guest.
