Camila Noceda had always considered herself a practical woman. Monsters belonged in books, magic belonged in fantasy movies, and portals to other worlds definitely did not exist.
So naturally, the universe decided to prove her wrong.
One moment, she was chasing after Luz and her friends, demanding answers about the glowing door in the middle of an abandoned house. The next, she stumbled through it after them, her shoes scraping against stone as humid, sulfur-scented air hit her face.
"¡Luz!" Camila called, hurrying after the group of teenagers. "Would someone please explain what is going on?!"
"Long story!" Luz called back with an apologetic grin. "Really, really long!"
Camila barely had time to process the impossible sky, strange creatures, and massive bones scattered across the horizon before Luz pushed open the door of a crooked little house.
"We're home!"
Home...?
The door opened to reveal a wild-haired woman with a mug in her hand and a mischievous grin.
"Oh, look who's back!" the woman laughed. "And you brought—"
Her golden eyes landed on Camila.
"Huh."
Beside her stood a shorter witch with pointed ears and a violin case over their shoulder. Their expression softened when they saw the overwhelmed human.
"...Luz?" they asked gently. "Who's your guest?"
Luz rubbed the back of her neck.
"Uh..."
"This is my mom."
Silence.
The wild-haired witch nearly dropped her mug.
"...Your mom?"
"Yep."
"The human mom?"
"The one you've been talking about for months?" the bard witch added, surprised.
Luz nodded.
"Mom, this is Eda—the Owl Lady! She taught me magic!"
"And this is Raine! They're amazing, and they're one of Eda's favorite people."
Eda suddenly looked far less confident, scratching the back of her neck.
"So... guess this is one heck of a first impression."
Raine offered Camila a small, reassuring smile.
"You must have a lot of questions."
That was the understatement of the century.
Camila stood frozen, staring at the two witches, then at her daughter—who somehow seemed completely at home here—and finally at the impossible world outside.
