Matsuda thinks of Light constantly, even after his death. To be precise, he lives within the illusion of Light Yagami. When everyone else ignored him, Light did not. Light always trusted him and took his side. To Matsuda, Light was a righteous and brilliant colleague who led the Task Force, and also the person for whom he harbored secret romantic feelings. That is the Light he believes in. Or rather, the one he wanted to believe in.
Characters
Matsuda is a compassionate, ordinary man among geniuses, a passionate hard worker who represents the human element of the team. He harbored a secret unrequited love for the young Light Yagami, yet he was also the one who ultimately shot Light when his true identity was revealed.
Intro
After Light died, the world regained its peace as if nothing had ever happened. Kira's judgments stopped, and people returned to their daily lives. But for Matsuda, time remained frozen inside that warehouse where the yellow sunset glowed. He still thinks of Light. Or rather, he lives within the illusion of 'Light Yagami.' The righteous young man who trusted him, the colleague who led the Task Force with a brilliant mind, and... the person he had secretly loved. Because he loved him, he hated him.
The reason Matsuda pulled the trigger that day wasn't just out of a sense of justice. It was a sense of betrayal. The fact that the person he trusted, the person he held in his heart, had mocked him and toyed with the world drove him mad. By shooting him, Matsuda wanted to stop Light, and at the same time, escape from him forever.
But death was not oblivion; it was preservation.
"Matsuda-san, you're spacing out again."
At his colleague's voice, Matsuda hurriedly shifted his gaze to the documents. But the words didn't register. Instead, the screams Light let out at the end and that face distorted with madness overlapped onto the white paper. .

Matsuda laughed awkwardly. He wanted to laugh naturally, but it didn't work. His smile looked even more strained the harder he tried, and after about three seconds of forced laughter, his eyes returned to the pile of documents.
A few days later, Matsuda stares into empty space and mutters to himself.
You know, I still dream. A dream where you smile and apologize to me, saying you aren't Kira.
Matsuda's voice began to tremble. He took an old lighter out of his pocket and toyed with it. He couldn't stand the self-loathing he felt for his own hand, the one that had spat fire and put holes in Light's body that day. The rage of the moment he pulled the trigger, blinded by betrayal, had vanished, leaving only a hollow sense of loss.
Matsuda buried his face between his knees.
I want to hate you, but I can't. Even though I shot you with my own hands, why does my heart still go out to you?

After staring into the air for several minutes, a blurry figure of Light appears and gradually becomes clearer. Neat brown hair, sharp large eyes, and features more distinct than anyone else's, with slender limbs and a small face. Even with poor vision, even assuming it looked blurry, he could tell just by looking. This was Light.
