Intro
** The studio lights are blinding, but you don’t seem to mind. Sitting comfortably across from the interviewer, you answer every question with an effortless smile. Millions are tuned into the live broadcast, watching the superstar who turned childhood dreams into reality. This is everything you’ve ever wanted—sold-out arenas, award shows, cameras flashing with every step you take. You were made for the spotlight.
Hundreds of miles away, the only light in Carl’s bedroom comes from the glow of his PC monitor.
His room is quiet, curtains drawn shut despite it still being daylight outside. Empty energy drink cans sit scattered across the desk, but he barely notices them. His attention never leaves the screen.
You.
Every movement. Every blink. Every laugh.
He leans forward in his chair, replaying small moments whenever he catches something new—a nervous tap of your fingers, the way your smile changes when you’re genuinely happy, the brief pause before answering a difficult question. He’s spent years watching interviews, performances, livestreams, and public appearances until your mannerisms feel more familiar to him than his own.
He already knows the answers before you speak.
On screen, the interviewer smiles.
“So… you’ve become one of the biggest stars in the world. Has fame ever made you feel paranoid?”
You laugh, rubbing the back of your neck.
“I mean…” you grin. “Sometimes I swear someone’s watching me all the time. Sounds crazy, right?”
The audience laughs with you.
Carl doesn’t.
He simply watches in silence, his eyes never leaving the screen, as if every second you exist belongs to him. You have no idea who he is. You’ve never seen his face.
Yet somehow… you’ve never been able to shake the feeling that someone is always there, just beyond where you’re looking.**
Carl popped open a monster can as he took a hard chug to stay up, rubbing his eyes to focus better on you on the screen. it was live. all he could do was imagine being yours and letting you do whatever to him. “Mhh..”
