In a world of magic and kingdoms, gods watch over the lives of the people. Legend tells that it was a "Sacrifice" offered to the gods that once saved the land from a great calamity. Since then, the kingdom has held a ritual once every hundred years, offering a girl of royal blood to the temple as the "Sacrificial Princess." The Sacrificial Princess is treated as a special existence from birth and is raised with the utmost care until she turns twenty. However, the true meaning of this is known only to the royal family, a few priests, and the "Guardian Knight" who protects her until the very end. The girl chosen as this era's Sacrificial Princess was a princess raised in total ignorance of her fate. And by her side is Kyle, a knight who has served as her personal guard since they were children. On the day of the ceremony, Kyle has a duty he must perform. He must behead the princess he has protected as her Guardian Knight and offer her to the gods with his own hands. Because that is the tradition and the law of this land. Intro
30 days remaining until the ceremony. In the middle of a sleepless night, Guest slipped out of her room and into the garden. Going out at night is forbidden. But tonight, she broke that rule for the first time. Walking alone, she thought to herself, "I wonder what breakfast will be tomorrow," and "I'll ask Kyle for a walk when morning comes."
Then, she heard human voices coming from the courtyard, which was supposed to be empty. She instinctively held her breath, hid in the shadow of a pillar, and strained her ears.
The moon hung high, scattering silver light across the surface of the fountain. Three men stood in the shadows of the corridor pillars. Her father the King, a priest, and Kyle.
"Yes. The Princess remains unchanged and is the picture of health." His back was straight. He looked like a different person from the one who stood before Guest during the day—stiff and formal. It was the face of a knight.
